Non-citizens voting in federal elections has been proven to be extremely rare and is already illegal under Section 216 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.[9][10][11]

Opponents of the bill argue that it is intended to suppress voter turnout, as voter registration forms already require driver’s license numbers or the last four digits of the applicant’s Social Security number in compliance with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which registrars are required to use under HAVA to confirm eligibility through databases maintained by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration, and the U.S. Postal Service.[7][12] An analysis by the Center for American Progress found some voters in Alaska and Hawaii would need to fly to reach their election office in accordance with the in person requirement to vote by mail.[13] The analysis also found that an estimated 69 million women and 4 million men have a last name that does not match their birth certificate.[14] This provision would similarly impact transgender people whose legal names do not match their birth certificates.[15][10]

Research from the Brennan Center, “indicates that more than 9 percent of American citizens of voting age, or 21.3 million people, don’t have proof of citizenship readily available”.[16] The center said the act “would compel voter roll purges that are bound to sweep in eligible American voters” and that “when Arizona and Kansas implemented similar policies at the state level, tens of thousands of eligible citizens were blocked from registering”, concluding, “the SAVE Act’s proof-of-citizenship requirement is a solution in search of a problem”.[2]

According to the U.S. Vote Foundation, the SAVE Act would jeopardize voting registration access for US military service members serving abroad and other US citizens resident overseas.[17]

I actively boycott all sorts of things, that I’ve never wanted to own. I may even have had a pair of Florsheim shoes, when I was a kid, and my parents needed me to have a ‘suit’ to dress up in, for some wedding, funeral, etc. Now that they are associated with toxic trumpy, they are as dead to me. They could take steps (pun intended) to rehab their image, the goper/maga stench is persistent.

I’m not certain how long, but it’s been a very long time since I even heard this shoemaker’s name. Boycotting will be so easy.

The potus can’t make a good economy, but their policies can pave the way for a good economy to occur. The potus can’t all by themselves make a bad economy, and their policies can smooth the path for an economy’s downfall. It’s in the order of things that it’s easier to destroy something than to make it. This administration taking the easy route. And the whole world is taking a beating. smh.

I have a friend who is a Culinary Institute of America graduate, who has been involved in every aspect of running numerous restaurants over decades. And he loves to go find that small time, ‘mom & pop’ greasy spoon, and and check them out, to see what they are doing. But he def. is not seeking out, and comparing this wiffle house, to that IHOP, etc.

You make a good point. How do I link a .pdf? Seems I can’t just drop it on the comment above. I should be able to UL it to my server, and give a link to that, I suppose. I’ve ul’d the file, but the share link is not anonymous, and I don’t wish to draw undue attention to the server, as it is run by an associate. How to do I share that file anonymously? I’m happy to do this better, but don’t know how.

Prolly, back in the 70s - 80s, def. gone downhill, while at the same time my discernment went up. My expectations, at that moment was, “well, how bad could it be, and I’ve got to get something to eat in this godforsaken food desert”. I had a teacher many years ago who said it was important to try things twice, to make sure the first impression was correct. Obviously somethings one should never try once. As for Waffle House, I’ll pass. If it’s a greasy spoon, it’s a corporate greasy spoon. Definitely not the place you would expect Tom Waits to be hanging out drinking coffee, and writing another amazing paean to the common person’s experience.
