I have an ultrawide as my main monitor and a regular wide screen monitor floating above it on an arm. The main thing I need all that space for is running ttrpg games, honestly. Roll20 or some other vtt open on one side of the ultrawide, then other side has rule book pdfs, enemy stat blocks, notes, etc. The top monitor has discord for chat as well as everyone’s webcams.

But outside of that it’s nice to have a browser or discord visible on one screen while playing a game on the main display, but you could get by without it.

If you’re on windows, display fusion was great for this. Since I switched to Linux, KDE just natively does everything I needed display fusion to do. Changed some key binds to match what I was already used to and was off to the races.

What’s wild is I have had a 1TB one of these running for like 4 or 5 years now without issues, and I’ve had 2 nice Samsung’s (a 970 and 980) die in that time frame. I’ve basically come to the conclusion that modern consumer storage can’t be trusted or relied on in general. Robust back-up solutions of anything I’m worried about losing, preferably to a cloud service (or 2)…

Personally, I couldn’t disagree with your general statement more, as I have had the exact opposite experience in that paying more for good gaming peripherals from trustworthy brands is worth every penny - BUT to be fair, I am only comparing the gaming peripherals to other gaming peripherals. As an example, I will never buy a Razor product as every single one I’ve had has been cheap trash that dies in 3-6 months. I learned to pay the money for Logitech. I’ve been using one of their gaming mice for about 3 or 4 years now and it is just now starting to show some signs of age with wheel clicks occasionally not registering, and all like 15 other buttons still work as expected just fine. I think the big problem is that there are a lot of crappy “gaming” brands that jack the price way up for cheap crap just because they slapped some LEDs on it and give it an edgy name. They throw a ton of money at marketing and advertising, and the price point is high, so the general population start to think of them as a high-end premium brand when they are (probably) just taking a $7 walmart mouse and slapping a new outer shell on it with some cheap RGB (so they can convince you to install their bloatware while they are at it).

No hate intended, as these are all just our personal opinions and there is no “right” or “wrong” answer. I personally cringe at the idea of going back to a cheap “$7 walmart mouse”, but if it works for someone else I’m not trying to tell them they are wrong. :P

They made it so people can build structures that periodically ping the whole system and destealth your ship. Primarily aimed at stealth campers but it can occasionally catch you out if your roaming around being nosy.

I’ve printed small plastic parts to fix the flush mechanism of a toilet for pennies. I’ve printed little utility items like hangers for parts to paint. Holders for dnd minis to make painting them easier. Storage boxes to organize small parts for various other hobbies. Giant realistic cock and balls turned into a trophy. Replacement parts for board games that have been lost or broken over the years. Custom dice towers and dice boxes for dnd dice sets. Etc.

The ability to see a need, take some measurements, and spend a few minutes in a cad software to have a replacement part that you otherwise can’t find (or can’t find by itself) is honestly amazing.

As far as I notice they aren’t “killing the game” but I’ve been much happier since I gave up the idea of doing big null sec corpo blob wars and I assume those are the people that might have valid complaints.

I love the small gang cheap ship roams. Nothing like a fleet of mining frigates loaded for bear jumping haulers and randos in null sec. You get to be your own bait. I have been a little sad about the stealth nerfs, I miss just roaming in a stealth ship solo.

My German shepherd mic is a high energy hell raiser that you’d think is dumb as a biscuit, but has proved me wrong several times, especially as an escape artist. There was one that shocked me more than any other.

My neighborhood had been having a rash of break-in during covid lock down. Neighborhood teens mostly being bored it seemed. One day while I was at work, they tried to get in the back door, and in true guard dog fashion she went ballistic at the door, barking growling and gnawing the door handle to the point of leaving bite marks.

Invader successfully ran off, now she’s just so fucking excited she has to pee. I’m at work for another 3 hours and she can’t get outside. What does this doofus do? Breaks into the bathroom (that she has watched me pee in repeatedly) and jump up on the tiny guest bathroom vanity and pees in the sink. I fully believe that if I left toilet lids open she’d have peed in the toilet that day.

The Kessel run thing was done in the EU books ages ago, but honestly I still liked the idea that Han was just talking out his ass (and obi wan’s expression actually works for this idea).
