  • and they might not get into heaven if they don’t

That’s it. That’s the entire reasoning. This is why MAGA had that mass-psychosis about the “Rapture” late last September. This is the stated reason our Republican Senators and house Reps echo when supporting Israel. Because the Bible says those who support Israel will be raptured… except the Bible doesn’t actually say that. MAGA just wants to be free of this world.

Even with their politicians in office, MAGA hates this time as much as the most devout leftist. We’re all suffering, everywhere, unless you have Big money. Republicans just think that suffering under their Dear Leader is how they ascend into the afterlife, so they can finally be free of their pain. Rather than support actual policy changes, they’ll try to unlock some “secret ending” they heard about in their churches.

It’s actual insanity. You’d have better luck quoting scripture to getting these people to believe different nonsense, than to get them to touch base with reality. Fuck… I can’t really blame them. The last year has made me lose my mind, and I don’t want it back.

  • IMO it’s simpler than that. Overwhelmingly USAmerican political turnout is highest among those dissatisfied with the sitting administration. It’s why we’ve had these 2-term party swaps, which became 1-term swaps after Trump-1; and is why Presidents tend to lose political power in Congress as their terms go on. That can change with an actually inspiring candidate (and I think Mamdani is that type, as was Bernie in 2016).

Generally though, if people are picking what they deem as a lesser evil, hate of the current administration is the main way to push them to action on Election Day.

  • I remain as shocked as you. When Trump was the candidate in 2024 I figured Kamala’s victory was guaranteed. What I’ve come to realize in recent years is that USAmericans are fundamentally unwise. They really vote based on what they feel in the moment, hence why as the country gets worse, the elections keep flip-flopping.

Trump lost in 2020 because of Covid-19 and won in 2024 because of “grocery prices” and being the opposite major party to the current guy. The fact that he’s an insurrectionist rapist conman who pioneered division and destruction just doesn’t matter to them. The 2016-2020 term? The Pandemic he failed to maintain? Forgotten about. The embarrassments in the Republican-held congress? Most voters don’t even recall them. How any of us live with this is beyond me. It’s like being held hostage by self destructive parents.

  • That second point seems to be forgotten when we talk about aspiring progressives. Fellas, a Reddit incel who called himself “Kekius Maximus” pulled a coup d’état with DC police in lock-step, then got pushed out of his leadership because of a scuffle with openly Nazi Stephen Miller. You know how this happened? Because the formerly far less popular Right-wing declared “No Enemies to the Right” and grabbed people with outreach that blatantly contradicts other members. Evangelicals and Incels. Kirk and Fuentes. Homophobes and #WalkAway Gay Republicans. Caitlyn Jenner endorsing Transphobes. Doctors backing RFK, Phil, Oz… We had Nazi Furries called “Burned Furs” (iirc) while school board hijackers whined about “unisex furry litterboxes”.

I don’t care about anything but policy at this point. I don’t care if the man had a tattoo of Hitler sucking a penis. He got it covered up, and has years of posts about Socialism and calling out others for being racist. A Congressman could be fucking a waifu dakimakura bodypillow during their debate and I’d still rally if he’d get the homeless and poor fed and housed. We’re too worried about seeming weird or “politically incorrect” in a world where the policy and decorum is merely an illusion.

  • Let’s look at the relevant candidates for this Senate race:

It’s Graham Platner – a former marine who had a forgotten reddit account with years of pro-socialist posts; Janet Mills, a 77-year old dinosaur who will be anything but progressive; and sitting Republican Susan Collins.

People can change, and Platner has demonstrated that he did. Given his alternatives, is an old tattoo which he covered really any reason to not vote this guy??? It’s not Graham Platner versus a picture-perfect socialist who runs a commune that saves orphans and puppies. It’s Platner v. Susan Collins v. Janet Mills. Do not let the Mainstream Media make this a controversy.
