  • It’s not perfect, but I’ve got quite a few of the things I wanted to have when I was imagining the future back then.

I’ve got a partner that I trust and love, I do the job that I wanted to be doing, albeit not the perfect company or the most satisfying position, I’m still in touch with the friends I wanted to keep (and happily not in touch with some of the rest), I’m no longer living with my parents and have two cats that are the perfect little creatures for company.

Some things could be better, many of them completely out of my control. My current goal is to just make my lifestyle healthier, I’m too sleepy all the time because of staying late trying to regain the time lost doing the boring adult things, and I get exhausted and out of breath extremely easily.

  • Mathematics is a terrible baseline for intelligence since it has so many prerequisites for it to exist at the most basic level.

We very often misunderstand the reason of our success as a species to be exclusively because of our unique intelligence alone, when it’s really the special combination we have that has allowed that intelligence to be useful.

Being really good at communicating and creating languages for example, being a land based species, having fingers that we can use with a lot of ease into creating tools, being worse predators physically which gives a material reason for us to create those tools initially, intelligence alone would be a small thing without them.

As others have said, scientists believe that several species are even more intelligent than humans, but maybe they never needed our way of life and natural selection never led them to it because they were just fine as they were.

  • Being asked a million questions when someone finds out I’m a communist

I wouldn’t be getting an interrogation or being tasked to do a History/Political Science 101 lecture on the spot if my politics were anything else, and the last thing I want to do is get into fights with someone I don’t know or care much about because they refuse to question the propaganda they’ve been given and I absolutely need to be convinced by them

  • Where I live they also have these very restricted service areas where you have to be in if you want to be able to park the scooter, otherwise the app simply won’t let you end the session and pay. Not sure how they even determine these areas, I wouldn’t be surprised if the competing scooter companies here have their own territory and keep people locked in for the mutual benefit of the companies and at the cost of anyone wanting to commute with these things.

And aside from all that, as you said they are extremely expensive even for a ride around the block, and also very dangerous if the roads are designed with only cars in mind.

  • Can’t give any solution because I had the same problem pretty much where I live and I just went into web development because I gotta eat.

Though I can say that nobody stops you from doing all kinds of programming in your free time, open source also gives you a lot of interesting things to work on if you have the time to dive in and try to get your hands dirty with a project. There definitely are differences in common practices and concepts when going from web dev to other areas of computer science, but you can always find parallels and similar logic. It definitely would help to be able to properly study new things, but it’s both very time consuming and expensive, so that’s not a solution for everyone.

  • Rid yourself of the notion that democracy lies in political parties fighting each other where you get to vote on them, and you will realize that all capitalist democracies are just elaborate dictatorships disguising themselves every 4 or so years.

This “democracy” is exactly the kind of system that brought Trump to power with a useless “opposition” party that is comfortably looking away while Trump does all the dirty work that they would also like to have done if it didn’t ruin their facade.

The only real opposition can come from the people themselves.

  • I hate the company for the way they enforce their copyrights and how they price games that have been out for a decade or more as if they released last week, but I really like the games, other consoles only have 2 or 3 exclusive games that are worth playing, but Nintendo has so many bangers. Maybe it’s also the fact that I grew up playing mostly Nintendo games that clouds my judgement, but their games just give me such a good vibe.
