Only if Monty Hall didn’t know where the prize is

Say there are 100 doors, you choose one, then 98 are knocked out randomly (likely including the prize) - Now each of the 2 doors has the same chance of winning, so there is no reason to change

But starting with 100 doors and a knowledgeable Monty Hall, once you’ve chosen a door, the only reason Monty Hall leaves your door alone is because you chose it, whether it is the 1/100 winner, or one of the 99/100 losers

Either you chose the right door the first time (1/100 chance) or the other door has the prize behind it - those are the only options - the other door literally represents the 99/100 other doors in a single choice

  • I did a lot of that building up because there wasn’t much content that interested me coming through.

In hindsight it may have meant I should have chosen a different instance but now it’s done I’m pretty happy and as you mentioned, it expanded the content for other users on the instance

The moderation policy can be important, on lemmy.zip they’re somewhat anti-defederation so I spent a half hour banning all the big communities from the problematic instances

  • “Meditate for an hour every day unless you are too busy. In that case meditate for two hours.”

I use the Ten Percent Happier app, but only their Basics I and Basics II series. At least the first and maybe both should be free in the app

Despite the quote, once you have developed a meditation habit you really only need 5 minutes to find some centre

  • Once you understand that federation is a process managed by each instance it is easier to navigate communities

Your account is on an instance (server) that will only see communities on other instances if someone on your instance has already subscribed to that community

If you joined a large instance you might already see a lot of communities in your feed that you can subscribe to, but you might be missing some that exist but won’t show up in the search

A solution is to use lemmyverse.net or a similar site. You set your home instance, then search for communities. It gives you links that open on your instance where you can subscribe to (or block) communities. You do this in a browser, and it immediately reflects in the apps

e: If you are coming from reddit and just want to know what communities align with a particular subreddit, you can use sub.rehab then search for the community on lemmyverse
