The box they submitted is now our community icon and they are credited on our sidebar. It’s a beautiful box with (walnut?) lid and mitered plywood. Nice work, champ!

Well that was fun, huh? Would anyone like to do something like this again?

Thanks y’all :-) Very nice submissions of everybody. There’s a lot to learn for me from you!

I’d be in favor of more contests like this to keep the community active and engaged. IMO themes should be easy enough for everyone to participate.

How about some home dekor or figurines for the next theme? I think its difficult to draw the line between woodworking and DIY handicrafts. I wouldn’t mind touching the handicrafts area a little bit, since professional woodworking is not something I can do with my skillset, tools, and time.

I’m so glad you felt that way because that was just what I was hoping for. Home decor or figurines are both excellent ideas for a new challenge. I was thinking of announcing it in Sept. I like handicrafts too. I’m more into spoon carving and whittling than furniture building and cabinetry. Maybe one day Lemmy will have communities for those things.

Great stuff, and we’ll done to all entries. I’d love for this to continue as it helps motivate people and a good excuse to distract from larger projects or get back into it if people are new or haven’t picked up tools in a while!

    Great time!

Are we able to upload multiple images on this instance? If not, was that a conscious decision?

I don’t think so. I don’t run this instance so I can’t answer if it’s a conscious decision. I think that’s just Lemmy. I run another instance, thegarden.land and I cannot set it to allow multiple images. What you can do is choose one for the main image/ thumbnail, and then add more in the body

Interesting. I can’t add images in the body, but that may just be an issue with Sync. There’s a patch coming out soon that’s supposed to address some issues with image upload, so maybe that’ll fix it. Thanks for the input!

I just found this community but I would love to participate in the next one!

I’ve been interested in the following types of simple projects: picture frames, simple board games (checkers or the Cracker Barrel Peg Game), napkin holders, pencil cups, simple toys, etc…
