I’ve used vanced for years and revanced for easily 6 months. I haven’t heard of anyone getting banned since it uses MicroG for the login, but there could be a part of the TOS everyone signed that says you can’t use your account to bypass their “rules”, so it could be a technical violation 🤷‍♂️

That’s a fair take also. Plenty of YouTubers have said they get decent money from people who watch their content from premium members. They’re never really transparent with how much (compared to a normal user view) these views are giving them, but that’s fine.

Revanced is great. I wish it could let me bypass some of the inbuilt limits like not being able to download videos, but that’s a small price to pay for removing like 99 of the ads

It’s a good option for when you want to follow every instance and not be beholden to the server admin randomly de-federating an instance they don’t agree with personally (which was one one of the issues Reddit faced, mods with their own agenda)

If you run your own instance you can choose exactly what you get to interact with

Seen plenty of people calling for the de-federation ban-hammer whenever they find comment they like. There’s fine line between having an open space and an echo chamber and if it were up to these people we’d federate with no one

At least on modern Android you can long press on most text and get that little zoomed in indicator (so you can more easily adjust the selection)

I remember that being stuck in iOS limbo for years, glad we have that but yeah it’s not super consistent right now copying

At the end of the day I’d argue that the majority of people want a “Reddit like” experience, with dozens or posts with heaps of engagement. I’m happy to have news / repost bots if the end result is a more engaging comment thread / discussion.

When looking at older Reddit posts, I never enjoyed the comments where the discussion was OP focused. I’m keen to have them phrase the original question / link and then step back and let the discussion naturally form

Be super keen for foldable devices overall. I just can’t get past the huge obvious fold in the middle of the screen. It’s gotten better but I’m hoping eventually it evolves to the point where it’s seamless. Being able to pull out a phone and then unfold it to get a tablet UI would be super handy for articles

With the way some people treat the fediverse I’d argue that this place as a whole is well on its way to becoming an echo chamber.

The number of posts I’ve seen along the lines of “hey I don’t like x, can we de-federate” is shocking. People need to have some level of accountability and block people / communities / domains for themselves without resorting to pulling out the de-federation ban-hammer which affects everyone else on the instance

That good things, even if they seem like they’ll last forever simply may not. Never forget they took third party apps from us

Yeah the logout issue is pretty annoying. I’ve got a feeling it’s got to do with the CSRF token that’s on all the forms (like the upvote / downvote arrows) that if you sit idle probably don’t match when you submit. Probably something we need to have a hard look into to fix up

The overall sentiment about the lack of comments feels pretty fair. One of the best parts of Reddit was the volume. While you don’t really need to have 3000 comments on a post to make it feel engaging, having 300 I feel is better than the 5 or 6 I’ve often seen.

It’s still an early platform so I’m hoping with time we get dozens of replies on most posts

Yeah the comment toggling, sidebar with your magazines and a few other parts are coming up kbin as native features, it just takes a while to get them tested + pushed out for release. There’s a heap of great stuff coming

The Kbin enchantment sweet is great. The developer who worked on it is actively in the Matrix chat. We’re working on getting a heap of those improvements baked into the platform, but being an open source protect it takes a while to get things through

Sometimes this approach is the best. What do you actually gain from arguing with people who have no good faith basis for their arguments? It sounds like a headache

The response to that type of that phrasing needs to be “so what?” Or “yeah and?”

They’ve done legitimately the lowest amount of effort needed, carry a child to term.

I’ve been splitting my old Reddit time across multiple sites and projects now. I’m pretty keen on watching the content at squabbles, they’ve generally got a really positive environment and nice pictures.

Also been working on improving kbin since it’s open source, great to get some mobile centric changes to make everyone’s experience a little better 🦙

Arguably one of the most important sites too. People had accounts for week over a decade, they’re rightly pissed when a place you used to love turns to shit because some dropkick CEO wants to pump his upcoming IPO
