BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Critics Ramp Up Scrutiny Of 22-Year-Old ‘Former Lawn Boy’ Trump Put in Charge of Terrorism Prevention Unit — Amid Iran Threats91·6 days agoYeah, the Iranian government will probably just take it as the prank it was meant to be. Just boys being boys! No need to get revenge.
/S, dummy.

Besides, an impeachment only makes Peter Theil (Vance’s leash holder) the president, then we’re out of the frying pan and into the fire.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Democrats want new leaders, focus on pocketbook issues, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds11·7 days agoTranspeople and their supporters are falling into a trap set by the MAGA Nazis. They know that by constantly forcing the issue to the forefront, it forces Democrats to defend it, and it not only costs votes and makes them look extreme, but it keeps them from discussing issues that will earn them votes.
FIRST Rule of Politics - Get Elected. If it doesn’t get you elected, doesn’t attract votes, a campaign has to be ruthless and talk about something else. This is important: It doesn’t mean you don’t have support, it means that other issues are stronger vote attractors, and that’s what counts in an election. Vote for the candidate/party that is more likely to be sympathetic to your cause, even if they don’t talk about it, and you know that isn’t going to be Republicans. But don’t withhold your vote from a Dem candidate just because they didn’t make your specific issue their top priority. It doesn’t mean it isn’t important to them, it just means that other things are more likely to get votes. You certainly aren’t going to get what you want from MAGA Nazis.
I’m not a neo-liberal, I’m not even a Democrat, I’ve been an Unaffiliated Independent for nearly 50 years. I have a son with numerous trans friends whom I love and respect. I am way on your side. But this a WAR, and to achieve your objectives, sometimes you have to sneak up on the enemy. Running directly into the line of fire is not the way to win.
Your real battle is with health care. We need to have universal health care in this country, and when we finally do, there is going to be a war over things with a sexual/gender component like contraception, abortion, and trans health. Fight for health care first, and then you can fight to be included in that, and that will get you much of what you really need most.

And was it worth it?1·7 days agoI have a similar story with ex-partners, but not as long and convoluted, and also without such a successful outcome, but I definitely understand how dastardly ex-partners can motivate you to want to succeed without them.

Rear Window is my favorite movie, and I like The Man Who Knew Too Much, Lifeboat, and Stranger on a Train a lot, too. I’ve heard that someone is working on a remake of Strangers on a Train.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Democrats want new leaders, focus on pocketbook issues, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds52·9 days agoI’m not saying those people aren’t important, I’m saying they shouldn’t be the highest priority when deciding which issues to highlight during a presidential campaign. Sure, transpeople need our support, but their issue personally affects a far smaller segment of the population than an issue like healthcare, which affects literally EVERYBODY.
The First Rule of Politics is Get Elected, and that means highlighting the issues that will bring you the most votes. Once elected, then you can do whatever you want to help whoever you want. If you are one of those people who needs that sort of support (not just transfolk), then focus more on what it will take to get your advocates into power, instead of just using the campaign to highlight your own personal issues. Get your people elected, and then pressure them to help you.
This is what politics is, and why it often gets smarmy in practice, but that’s the game. If you want to win, you have to play it.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever successfully plotted revenge? Why? And was it worth it?2·9 days agoYeah, the interest idea doesn’t make sense, especially since for most of the 21st century the interest on savings accounts has been negligible.
If it cost $6 on the $1500 loan, that’s most (of not all) of the interest right there, and it takes time for that interest to accrue significantly. It’s not going to happen in a couple of days.
If this was the scheme, then your ex-boss was no criminal mastermind.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever successfully plotted revenge? Why? And was it worth it?13·9 days agoEdgar Allen Poe laid out the rules for a fully satisfying revenge in his story The Cask of Amontillado:
-
The revenge has to be worse than the original offense.
-
You have to get away with it.
-
The person has to know who did it, and why, yet there’s nothing they can do about it.
Take away any of those factors, and it isn’t a fully satisfying revenge plot.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Democrats want new leaders, focus on pocketbook issues, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds54·9 days agoDespite the opposition, you are correct. We need to focus on issues that will win elections, not issues that affect a miniscule minority. The best help for those people is a government that will support them, so they have to understand that getting out of the way, and allowing their supporters to get elected is the best thing they can do.
If transgender people and their supporters want action, then stop demanding that the focus be on them, and support other Democratic issues that will lead to getting elected. THEN they can advocate for their rights with people who will actually listen.

According to the TV and movies I’ve seen, this will lead to customizing fetuses, mostly for intelligence, and then the question becomes does society accept those people as their leaders (Brave New World) or criminalize their gene-enhanced intellect (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)?
BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.worldto Uplifting News@lemmy.world•CRISPR used to remove extra chromosomes in Down syndrome and restore cell functionEnglish4·9 days agoIf you want to watch some old movies that are genuinely special, look up the movies that Alfred Hitchcock made in the 40s and 50s, both color and B&W. I’m especially fond of the bunch he did at the end of the 50s - The Man Who Knew Too Much, North By Northwest, Vertigo, Psycho, and my favorite movie of all time, Rear Window. A few other really interesting ones are Strangers On A Train, Lifeboat, Dial M for Murder, Notorious, Rebecca, etc.
Absolutely mind-blowing, they’re so good. His stuff from the 30s and the 60s is okay, but his middle period was incredible.

Yep, Trump’s trade expert’s best source for information is just making it up himself. It’s all just imaginary, wishful thinking. Stupid people think they can just wish their fantasies into reality.
