I hate this so much. People should be free to act like they want (as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone), because why the hell not? What’s so objectively better about acting in the ‘normal’ way? But everything outside the very narrow idea of normal is treated like a problem by default.
I have some tics that come out when I’m alone that I’ve filtered out around others as long as I can remember, and honestly I think that’s part of why I feel so claustrophobic in social situations. I don’t even know how to act like ‘myself’ in public if I want to.
Seeing people being themselves regardless of how it looks to the current typical sensibilities is the only thing that lets me feel like I might be able to do the same. So fwiw, every little bit of rule breaking you have done or will do makes the world a little better for me, and anyone else who doesn’t feel welcome. Thanks.

Finding vocabulary at all can be a challenge in and of itself. If I get too lost for words I sometimes can’t find any - it’s not that I don’t know how things work, I don’t know how to say it.

Little Acorns! That was my first exposure to this concept. Could you tell me a little more about your experience starting out, and what sort of systems you use to help? Or point me in the direction of a post for further reading (would you recommend Atomic Habits?)? I’m overdue for a big change in my life and I’ve been thinking about how to approach things as someone terrible at following through, so this has me interested. I’m not quite sure where to start though.

I prefer TV series as a medium; I have trouble sitting through a whole movie, and I think the way series have ‘chapters’ like a book is really helpful for a lot of stories. There’s also just a lot more detail you can put in a long show.
All that being said, I’m so sick of series that don’t go anywhere, or get cancelled prematurely. Other than miniseries like Queen’s Gambit it seems like so many just sort of wander off into mediocrity after some seasons. Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Outer Range (soon)… Now I wait for series to end before picking them up, at least in the case of plot-heavy shows like those. There’s less of an issue for comedies and other types of shows where the story isn’t the main draw, so that’s the sort of TV I end up watching the most.
The recipe I used ended up being terrible haha, so I kinda started winging it halfway through. The later batches turned out better after some adjustments but I’d still like a better starting recipe, so if you find a good one please let me know!

Huh, never heard of that, good to know! Though I’ve actually had a hard time finding buckwheat (and most grains besides wheat, really) at a reasonable price; the only options at my closest grocery store are all extremely marked up organic options in tiny containers. It’s too bad, I really like whole grains.
True, though for a four day trip, as long as you get it at the right ripeness I don’t think any fruit would go bad in that time.
But yeah apples are a great choice, like you said they’re good basically forever but also pretty easy to pack - not as easy to bruise as other fruits. Oranges also come to mind as a good travelling fruit.
Fruit can last more than a few days without being dried though.
I don’t know about pasta, but cooked rice can go bad within a few hours, definitely wouldn’t eat it after a few days. Unless you mean dried rice but I don’t know how you’d cook it without boiling water.
I find myself saying this one a lot. When I feel like I’m putting in effort and the other person won’t meet me in the middle something like this always seems to slip out, but I hate how passive aggressive it is.
Reframing it so ‘the problem’ is the problem rather than the person is a good idea. Helps with communication, and if it can be internalized, it seems like a better way to think about the conflict too.
