This is a sane and measured response to a terrorist attack /s Just do terrorism back 100-fold, I guess?

I saw a tip option at a coffee shop the other day, but it’s very unclear who’s even getting that tip. The cashier? They’re not doing anything extra, so a tip doesn’t make sense. The barista? If I get a complicated drink a tip might make sense. But I genuinely wouldn’t doubt it if this ambiguity is taken advantage of and the business just pockets the tip and no one sees it.
Genuinely wondering, who even gets the tip in that case? Or is it just a donation to the billion dollar multinational corporation?
It’s the same reason people hate ads. If you see a poster in a restaurant advertising some service, you don’t care. But ads on the internet are shoved in your face and must be dismissed to get at the content. The equivalent of a tip jar for Square would be a button that says “tip your server” next to “continue”. Instead, there’s no easy way to dismiss the tip prompt - you have to go into custom and choose 0, which makes it an active choice which must be made in order to even continue, as if the server held the tip jar directly in your face and you had to push it aside to pay at the till. It’s an imposition, one which targets neurodivergency surrounding motivation and social anxiety (eg people pleasing and depression). They took one of my spoons!
I’m not sure it even matters if he was “really” referring to Cohen, the fact that he’s under a gag order to protect people means he should STFU. Every word he says, intentionally or “not”, is potentially dangerous to the people involved. Isn’t that the whole point of a gag order? Don’t talk about the specifics of the trial, you can say it’s unfair or whatever but the specifics are too dangerous to reveal. Why aren’t his lawyers stopping him from saying this stuff? They’re going to lose by contempt of court or something at this rate. Come to think of it, Alex Jones did the same thing in his trial.
It feels kind of hopeless now that we’d ever get something that feels so “radical”, but I’d like to remind people that 80+ hour work weeks without overtime used to be the norm before unions got us the 40 hour work week. It feels inevitable and hopeless until the moment we get that breakthrough, then it becomes the new norm.
I actually use GPT-3.5 (the free one) for my meal planning, GPT-4 seemed like it was smarter than it needed to be and it works pretty well - Claude should also work. The trick with LLMs, as always, is to avoid treating them like people and treat them more like a tool that will do exactly what you ask of them. So for instance, instead of “What should I eat for dinner?” (which implies personality, desires, and preferences and can throw it off), you should ask “List meals I can make using (ingredients) and other common ingredients” and then “Write a recipe for (option)” which are both mostly objective questions. You can ask for a particular style, culture, etc too. Also keep in mind its limits, it knows cooking from ingesting millions of cooking blog posts, so it won’t necessarily know exact proportions or unusual recipes/ingredients/combinations.
I wonder what effects this will have with all these antitrust suits happening right as AI is ramping up, but before any of them have got any real foothold. Maybe Alexa will never get a brain and instead AI assistants will be seeded by the breakups or startups untarnished by the end stages of their shareholders parasitizing value?
Now I want to see his reaction when people start breaking out the guillotines because his ilk have made peaceful resolution impossible.
Gates is a weird figure - I don’t think he’s actually evil (nowadays), because evil implies malicious intent. Rather, he unintentionally commits evil actions (those which harm people and if committed with full understanding would be unambiguously evil) as a result of his own personal extremely warped values. The guy thinks patent law is the highest moral good, so the millions of people who don’t get vaccinated as a result are either forgotten about or a necessary sacrifice for the societal good of protecting patents (which he might justify as making these sorts of innovations possible in the first place - demonstrably incorrect, but good luck getting him to listen to anyone who might tell him that).
tl;dr you can’t be evil by human standards if you have alien blue and orange morality.
They’re innovating how to make the smallest, least significant tweaks to their chemical formulas to extend patents another 20 years.
I should eat them more, but I have an irrational fear that they’ll go moldy before I even cut them. Mostly only use them in tzatziki and sushi, but they’re good in a salad, sandwich, anything requiring a refreshing component.
Doesn’t this just make Trump’s case worse? He was under strict limits of what he could say on social media lest he “accidentally” intimidate witnesses, but he’s still culpable if his cronies do it for him.
Genuine question, because my liberal dad didn’t understand what I meant when I asked - isn’t a deductible basically just another tactic for the insurance company to further weasel out of its responsibilities? I’m pretty sure the deductible of the insurance I get through my job is higher than I already pay them yearly. If my expenses are lower than that, I’ve basically given them ~$1500 for doing literally nothing. I may as well just pay out of pocket, but I can’t since insurance fucked the system for the uninsured.
I legitimately thought it was Bernie for a second and my heart stopped, like “oh no he’s finally gone senile”
The US has white supremacy in its very bones, we can paper over it but we’ll see it spring up even hundreds of years later. Note that if you do like the US I don’t think that makes you a white supremacist, clearly people are able to compartmentalize them successfully.
The problem is focus. This is a bit like a building flooding and breaking out the mop while gallons are still pouring in - you’ll need that mop eventually, but right now there are much more important things that need your attention.
That is single-handedly causing the downfall of Western Civilization ™ /s
(imagine queers being that powerful lmao)
Didn’t Florida just announce they were going to use PragerU videos in their curriculum? They might be getting to calling themselves a real university sooner rather than later…
It’s important to be aware of their opinions because they quickly become policy and rhetoric while Dems do damage control and fail to fix the underlying issues Reps exploit. In this case, having an instance where they directly contradict their own “sleepy Joe” narrative can help deconstruct the beliefs of family members who have fallen for it.
