Soooo… not the stimulus?
So what caused the inflation in the entire world? Surely a couple of stimulus checks for people in the United States of America couldn’t cause worldwide inflation. I know the us is a big deal, but… they don’t control the entire worlds economy, right?
The stimulus contributed about 3% toward US inflation. Yet inflation was 7% YOY last year. I’m no economist, but it doesn’t seem that you’ve got correct information here. Where are you getting the information that us stimulus checks caused worldwide inflation?
I just wish finding all references didn’t take an entire minute to show me a single reference though. By the time it loads I don’t even remember why I care what’s referencing the function anymore.

Or a junior dev implemented it and somehow it passed code review. Then when it was tested by the dev on localhost, it ran great. Then when (if) it hit qa, it was ran on local servers and worked fine.
A lot of things slip through the cracks. That’s what hot fixes and patches are for. It happens.
And I get that. And I think businesses should be able to make profit. And I think CEOs should make a decent salary. But I don’t think insurance should be handled by companies not affiliated with the government.
The fact is that insurance companies are publicly traded companies. Publicly traded companies have an obligation to shareholders to maximize profit. Maximizing profit isn’t something we want for something as necessary as our health. An individuals health is not a commodity. I’m not saying they are evil personally, but I do think the system is designed to benefit the companies and not the people. Which is not how democracy should work.
About $4 million was non-equity pay. Around $19 million was vested shares. He had a 331 : 1 ratio to the average employee. They can afford to pay people’s urgent medical bills without denying claims. If we are required to have insurance to be able to get BASIC needs met, that insurance better meet those basic needs. It’s especially rough for people with less money and less opportunity. Some people live paycheck to paycheck and their claim being denied means that hospital bill now forces them to choose between rent or food.
I do realize this is a 2 month old thread. There’s like 15 posts in my feed. Normally, I tend to lurk and not comment. Lemmy has a bit of a content drought, and I figured people would be happy with more comments or discussion, even on slightly older threads. United Healthcare pulled in $20 BILLION dollars in PROFIT in 2022. The ceo was given $24 million in compensation for that year. Denying claims because of scams? They can afford it.
I own a gun. I have nothing against guns. I enjoy target shooting. Gun control isn’t about taking away guns. It’s about controlling who gets guns based on how likely a gun in their hands is to cause a bunch of people to die. Even one person dying is not okay. So I think more stringent requirements for who can own a gun are reasonable.
To be fair it’s not just children. There are plenty of mass shootings at concerts, movie premiers, random gas stations. It’s just that the us has 288 school shootings from 2009-2018. The next highest would be Mexico. At 8 in the same time frame.
So it’s not so much “think of the children” as it is “hey guys, so many people get shot, and it’s worse in America than anywhere else. What can we do to make it not so bad? Maybe make it harder for idiots or unstable folk to get guns? And since most people who advocate for less gun CONTROL (not banning, just controlling who can go get an AR-15 off the shelf) tend to be the same folk saying “but we can’t let LGBTQ people exist! Think of the children!” But then children get shot at school and the cops are like “I’m not going in there. I’ll get shot!” Or “yeah you have to give birth because “think of the baby!” But the moment that child is born we don’t give a fuck about them. Let’s slash welfare because poor people don’t WANT to work!” But also those children we were thinking of? Let’s slash their welfare too. Damn poor babies. I bet their parents are drug addicts!
Nobody arguing against gun rights use “because of the children” as their main argument. The US does have way too many school shootings though, and we should probably address that somehow.

2 days. My coworker had been at an event and we had a meeting on a Wednesday. He discovered he had covid and called off Thursday, informing us. That Friday I felt the symptoms.
Yeah I really liked Memmy. The lack of updates wouldn’t bother me except there are a couple annoying bugs still. Also when I click on a community it opens in my browser. I’ve tested a bunch to find one that has everything I want. I’ve also settled on Avelon. The only thing it doesn’t have is multiple icon options and that’s not an important factor at all.
That’s fair. It all comes down to preferences in the end.
I tried bean in the early stages and didn’t really like the interface. I’ll try it again now that it’s out of test flight but I’ve really enjoyed Memmy so far.
If you’re on iOS I’d give Memmy a shot. It’s very similar to Apollo, and I’m really liking it. The devs are great too
I subscribe to a lot of similar communities myself, however I’ve recently gone on a bit of a culling spree. It seems a lot of people cross post to the various communities, so I see the same article posted by 3 different people in 3 different communities, and now I have this article about twitter’s rebranding 9 times.
Since my app doesn’t mark read on scroll I have to vote on it or open it to make it go away. It’s not enjoyable, so I’ve just been limiting my engagement to only the more popular or active communities.
