  • A lot of people are against it because they see it as the first step towards evil, but I still think we should have some sort of recommendation algorithm. New content discovery on Lemmy is way too manual for normies like me.

The sign-up process should be streamlined. It’s really intimidating to have to choose an instance when you don’t even understand what the heck that is. And then there’s the manual account validation. I’m not sure what the solution is but we might want to find one.

And we need to do something about the extremists. They have a right to exist, but the abnormally high prevalence of American-coded communist/anarcho-communist content that just casually talks about executing the rich and the like is weird and intimidating even to me, a decidedly left-wing person. Americans, who are famously doubtful of communism, probably run away from the platform seeing that. And as for non-Americans… Well the proportion of content that’s specifically about American politics is even higher than on Reddit, which is saying something.

  • I think it’ll just keep sinking for a long time. The US has been hell for a very long time. It’s just gotten worse.

It’s illegal to revolt against the state, and it’s illegal for individual states to seek independence. And that’s for the nation with the strongest armed forces in the world.

I predict a slow, boring descent into a corporatist dystopia.

  • If you want to see a lighter take on gambling, maybe Kakegurui or No Game No Life.

If you want death game stuff, maybe Btooom!. Mirai Nikki is also a classic in the same vein. Much more over the top would be the Fate series (Fate Stay Night, Fate Unlimited Blade Works, Fate Zero, etc.) Much less intense but still enjoyable was Death Parade. And we’re getting pretty far from the theme but theoretically Sword Art Online checks the death game box; reviled by true connoisseurs 🍷, I still think it’s plenty enjoyable if you don’t think about it too deeply.

If you’re looking for something in the “psychological” category, I can recommend Psycho-Pass for something serious with action, Oshi no ko for something serious with drama ,or Kaguya-sama wa kokurasetai! for a lighter take.

  • Everyone loves Bernie.

But dang it the man is 83. He should be enjoying the last years of his life in retirement. It makes me sad to think he still needs to be working in politics.

He’s as old as Trump, who is already too old for this shit, will be at the end of his term.

Maybe there should be a hard limit at 65 or something for politicians. Both to keep out people in whom dementia is clearly starting to appear and to let old people frickin’ rest.

  • When people use “different” with a preposition other than “from”. (Different to, different than)

I know it’s not technically wrong, but it just feels so wrong.

Also, when people add a phantom R between two words. “I’m a big fan of cinema ‘r’ and video games.”

Both stem from me not being a native English speaker, I think.
