There should be no need to pile on. Any one of those things would have been disqualifying in times past. Clinton almost got impeached over a blowjob. But Trump and all the things he said and done over the past 9 years is somehow okay. The mind boggles.

I had no illusion in 2016. In fact, I had no illusion back in 2002 when I left the US and gave up my citizenship after Dubya was elected and signed the USA Patriot Act into law after 9/11. America is hosed and has been officially on the path to idiocracy and fascism since then.

It’s just that a 3rd round of millions of Trump votes should confirm it without the shadow of a doubt to even the most wide-eyed believers in American exceptionalism. America today is the 1933 Germany of our time.

Even if Trump had lost, one fact remains: tens of millions of Americans voted for this guy three times in a row.

The first time, it’s conceivable that Americans made a mistake.

The second time, they knew Trump as actual President.

The third time, they knew Trump as a convicted felon, insurrectionist and overtly wannabe dictator, and they voted for him even harder.

At this point, MAGA isn’t a freak event, it’s the norm. Even if the dems had won, they’d have won the presidency of a MAGA country, and quite frankly, what’s the point… You can’t cure someone who wants to be sick.

Not really. It would only require the new user on the new instance to be able to “own” posts and comments made by the old user on the old instance.

For example, the old user account could transfers its posting and commenting history to the new account (and the new account would be asked to accept the transfer of course).

When it’s done, whoever visits the new account, will see posts and comments made from the old account up until the transfer, and the old account’s posting and commenting history would be blank.

Then If the old account were to continue posting afterwards for some odd reason, it would build a new posting and commenting history from that point on. Or the transfer could become effective only after the old account is deleted permanently.

I don’t know exactly how any of this is implemented, but it would definitely not require monkeying with the actual past posts and comments.

It’s not reputation or being recognized, it’s having an unbroken record of posts and comments, for myself and for others checking out my profile. I want my old comments and posts ported to my new account and deleted from the old, so that whoever checks my new profile sees all I’ve posted with all my old accounts.

Or said another way, the only thing that should change when I migrate my account is the @server part of the name and nothing else. And it should be trivially easy to do too. To my knowledge, this is not possible at the moment.

I don’t think there is an account migration tool yet.

I am in the same boat: I want to move out of SDF but I can’t really because I want to keep the community I moderate and my account’s posting history. I mean I could certainly create a new account and pass the moderating rights from the old to the new, but I’d still be starting from scratch posting-history-wise.

So I’m holding off until account migration is finally a thing.

But I’m not buying this: I get insult humor and I don’t mind getting insulted when it’s funny. But Hinchcliffe’s Puerto Rico thing is just a straight insult. I don’t find anything remotely funny in his “joke” at all. Do you? Is there any redeemable comedic value in it that I’m missing here? Honest question.

I’m aware of this. My own browser is setup to redirect Youtube links to FreeTube. But that doesn’t address the reasons why I would prefer not linking to Youtube:

• Reducing links that rely on Google services and loosening Google’s grip on everything ever so slightly
• Saving the video for posterity in case it gets pulled out, either by Youtube’s algorithm or by the person who posted it

Wow… The land of the free is really starting to fell like 1933 Germany now…
