Basically a deer with a human face. Despite probably being some sort of magical nature spirit, his interests are primarily in technology and politics and science fiction.

Spent many years on Reddit and then some time on kbin.social.

  • There was a politics subreddit I was on that had a “downvoting is not allowed” rule. There’s literally no way to tell who’s downvoting on Reddit, or even if downvoting is happening if it’s not enough to go below 0 or trigger the “controversial” indicator.

I got permabanned from that subreddit when someone who’d said something offensive asked “why am I being downvoted???” And I tried to explain to them why that was the case. No trial, one million years dungeon, all modmail ignored. I guess they don’t get to enforce that rule often and so leapt at the opportunity to find an excuse.

There’s also a simple toggle to turn Rewind off in the settings menu.

People are really going bonkers over Rewind, it’s almost a sort of mass hysteria at this point. Yes, it appears to be a very insecure and risky feature at this point. So just turn it off. There’s lots of features in any OS that you can set up in ways that will make your system insecure, this is just a particular one of those. Microsoft isn’t going to force it to be enabled, the ensuing legal shitstorm would be epic. I doubt they’ll roll it out to a large audience in its current state.

  • Obviously it’s not gonna sway anyone who’s gonna vote for him

That’s not true. You’re likely exposed to a very biased sample, there are a lot of people who simply don’t pay close attention to politics most of the time and may just now be getting the rude awakening that Trump really is a fraud. There are people who really will hold their vote over the candidate being a literal felon, and being in prison would hammer that home even more strongly.

  • People find a shiny new word that sounds clever. They start using it so that they sound clever too. They like sounding clever, so they use it a lot. They start using it for things that it doesn’t actually mean, until it loses all meaning other than the most generic “I don’t like that.” The word becomes enshittified and people eventually stop using it.

Needing a substitute, people find a new word…
