Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmings over 30 who try to stay active, what are you doing to accommodate for your incredibly decrepit bodies to avoid boo-boos?

politics @lemmy.world•Pentagon admits it doesn't 'positively ID' people before boat strikes kill them: lawmaker
45·1 month agoWhite House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said that complaints about the strikes were an effort to “distract” from the ongoing government shutdown.
We can be angry about multiple things at once, like the Trump admin killing random people in boats, and the Trump admin disappearing thousands of immigrants, and the Trump admin pressuring congress to avoid negotiating lower Healthcare costs, and…

27·1 month agoThis is the first time I’ve seen what they plan for it to look like. Cheap-ass kitchen chairs, tacky table settings, random AI human-blobs. The ceilings, windows, and chandeliers all inspired by the historical period when slavery was still legal

2·2 months agoI remember having BMI tests before training and once in boot camp, but not after I got to my first duty station. I was quite underweight when I was serving, but that was so long ago that I assumed they’d moved on to a better standard by now lol

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did anyone else not even know who Charlie Kirk was!?
3·3 months agoRight, I kind of expected that prominence to encourage carrying enough security to protect him. I think he skewed that a bit and thought he was untouchable because of his prominence.
The other two are just as insane, but think they have Trump’s ear despite not commanding anything near Kirk’s audience

politics @lemmy.world•FBI to Categorize Trans People As "Nihilistic Violent Extremist" Threat Group, Report Says
22·3 months agoWeird, all I’ve ever heard about is how high the suicide rate is among trans people, nothing about murder rate.
Also weird to consider “trans rights are human rights” to be nihilistic (Political belief or action that advocates or commits violence or terrorism without discernible constructive goals)
Edit: I meant as in trans people murdering other people. Trans people are overwhelmingly victims of violence than perpetrators

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did anyone else not even know who Charlie Kirk was!?
25·3 months agoHe’s famous for creating a conservative organization while in college, called Turning Point USA. The org puts out a lot of smug memes to appeal to young conservative folks, so naturally people made fun of them and counter-memed.
He’s said a lot of very vile things, like “Black women don’t have the same kind of brain processing power” (paraphrased) when talking about how bad DEI is.
My BFF hadn’t heard of him either, but they curate their feeds to be mostly uplifting fluff, and they aren’t terminally online like I am lol. I was kind of surprised that he was the influencer that got shot though, I might have expected someone like Loomer or Fuentes

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What kind of pillow setup do you have when you sleep?
1·3 months agoThe best hugging pillow I ever had was a ridiculously large plushie, because the fill density was different. I haven’t figured out the head pillow yet, because sometimes as a side sleeper I try to hug those, too. I’ve mostly landed on ignoring the shaped memory foam pillows, because even if it says “for side sleepers” it usually feels better using as a traditional sleeper

politics @lemmy.world•Trump expresses reservations over Florida eliminating vaccine mandates: ‘We have to be very careful’
4·3 months agoWyoming is next to a couple other states with significant Native American populations. The thing about vaccines is there’s a lot of resistance in those populations, especially if it’s white people administering them. Some of that crowd immunity we expect to have really needs to protect them too, and without it, they will be devastated by white people’s policies again.
That’s a very simplified statement without much cultural context, but I think it’s so painful to blame the ~500k people in one large, mostly rural, largely uneducated state for this when much denser voting populations did too

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what questions do you have but don't feel you can ask trans people?
11·4 months agoI met two people with my dead name and a third who used the nickname I used to (think Christina/Tina) all in the same job. I thought it would be weird, but I realized that I never identified with those names, I just used them because it was expected.
I imagine it’s different for other people, but that’s how it has been for me

Assuming Lemmy is still around by then, the front page will have a cat on it.
