A hug is a standard greeting between well-acquainted men in Sweden, so yeah. I hug my friends and family.
I didn’t graduate from university.
In order to get some more money, I decided to take a TA-position at the school.
For context, I live in Sweden - university costs nothing to attend here, and you get access to a mix of governmental assistance and near-zero interest loans (at about 1/3 assistance 2/3 loans) to finance your living costs while attending university. To get this money you are required to get passing grades in a certain percentage of the courses you take, around 75% is required). If you do not meet these requirements, you lose your benefits, and quickly risk not being able to afford food and rent.
This TA-position however took up more time than I thought it would, and as such, I didn’t manage to pass the courses I was taking. Since I no longer met the passing grades requirement, I could no longer get student loans and assistance, meaning that I had to keep working TA gigs to stay afloat. This finally became untenable, and I decided to drop out and move to another city and look for work.
So far, it’s worked out extremely well. I’ve been ridiculously lucky.
Summit is the best option I’ve found, to replace RIF that I used to use back when I was using reddit.
I’d be interested in this as well.
I follow the Duolingo Spanish Podcast, which has had some moderately interesting stories over the years, but I’d like to hear something a bit more challenging for sure.
I’m gonna give this one a shot. Thank you!
They’ve got better conditions with regards to the amount of sunlight, yes, but I was mainly referring to the incredible price tag of the installed system.
Straya is living in the year 3024 with regards to solar. We’re all very jealous of your success in this particular endeavor.
Which brand/model are you using?
Aftershokz Aeropex
How’s the sound quality?
Not great, but they are not headphones I use for audiophile-purposes
How’s the sound leak?
No idea tbh - a bit more than in-ears/over-ears I guess?
What kind of music do you use it to listen to?
Hardly any. If I want music, I have other hardware for that. My primary use for these headphones is to listen to podcasts while exercising
Are they comfortable to wear? For how long?
You don’t really notice them. I use them for hours on end for long cycling trips and they work well for that
Do you get any skin irritation or even breakdown where it contacts your temple?
I have not noticed any
Does the hook part wrap around your ears without any pressure points?
Yes
Does the behind-the-head band bounce around when you’re walking or running?
Not noticably
How much space is between the band and the back of your head/neck?
A few centimeters, less than five.
How’s the battery life?
A full charge maybe gets you 8 hours I think? I never let my devices go that low, though
How long have you had it?
2 years
When do you use it?
While exercising to listen to podcasts
Do they stay put, or do you need to reposition them frequently?
They stay where they are. It can be annoying to put on/take off shirts though as they can easily get stuck in them
Anything else to comment on?
I really enjoy my headphones, but they are most certainly not good for music imo. Still, it makes my rotation, which is mostly these plus a pair of buds that go in my pocket for all other listening purposes
Tell us the truth - is it you?
I’ll have to check it out sometime, thanks for the recommendation.
City, no doubt in my mind.
Being able to walk, bike and take transit instead of having to own a car is important for me. I’m not interested in the additional maintenance involved with owning a house, an apartment suits me a lot better. I also like having good access to plenty of things to do in the form of a great selection of restaurants and being close to international transportation options. Good access to nature without having to drive a car is also important to me.
Composting releases the same methane that landfills do.
I don’t think this is correct - methane is produced in anaerobic decomposition, while aerobic decomposition will release CO2.
I’ve got nothing against composting in general, but it should not be thought of as either a carbon neutral process or as a solution to trash. It is a solution only to biomass that cannot be readily sequestered from the biosphere.
I’d agree that it’s a harm reduction strategy, but food production will always have some amount of biomass involved that needs to be taken care of - composting is a beneficial strategy for making good use of this biomass.
That statement is naturally only true if you don’t think about it too much -
Is the poll for americans only?
Did you forget replacing the first I with a star in Br*tish, or maybe either of the emojis 🤢🤮?
I looked it up in my native language - as to get localized results - and it seems like the general manufacturer’s recommendation here in Sweden is to connect the dishwasher to the cold water, making any prewarming of the water unnecessary here.
I guess different advice for either side of the Atlantic is warranted, same as with washing machines - it’s basically not possible to run a washer here with cold water as far as I know, you can only run it at 30 °C at the lowest, where the washing machine will heat up cold water to that temperature itself.
Is this the case for Europe as well? I know that European washing machines for example will take in cold water and heat it themselves, while American washing machines either take their water from the hot or cold lines depending on a user setting.
I was previously convinced that taking cold showers was my only saving grace during hot summers, but this year I got the advice to try to take a warm shower a short while before bed, and I’m surprised to say that it has helped. This is for high 20s though so YMMV for sure.
