As someone who has tried both and went back to pihole for no reason other than “why not?” – it works as intended, does everything accordingly and I have 0 issues running it plus 2x unbound dns servers.

An “average” cmatrix uses around 7.6 MiB of memory and 2.5% ~2.7% of cpu on the same Rpi4.

t. Got a rpi 4 right to my left. It runs 24/7, so it takes a few keystrokes to test.

Kind of a “self-flex”, but one of the “#1 container” I mentioned in the OP, cmatrix (should have said image, I was way too sleepy when I posted this, but eh) uses less than 1% of the CPU and exactly 486kb of RAM (and that is on a RPI 4), so yep… pretty sure any PC (and I -REALLY meant to say ANY) will have 0 issues running those tiny, “waste of resources” apps. :^)

Blocky, unbound, and btop (which is not related to self-hosting, but its low memory plus cpu usage can be really handy on low power devices.)

Armbian. Aside from some minor inconveniences, typical from a Ubloatu install (unsolicited openvpn, cron, network-manager) its a breddy gucci distro.

That is a whole lot of text just to say “Rpi bad” – its (still) the best single board computer for both performance and low power draw.

AFAIK even a rpi zero can serve a lemmy instance just fine.
