Yeah, when I read the headline I figured it was saying that if you don’t vote, that means you’re actively supporting trump. But after reading the article, it’s definitely not saying that as far as I can tell.
I chalk it up to the headline being worded weirdly, and just the fact that people have been saying things sorta like that.

I can’t agree with this enough. My sister, a Christian, even agrees. Things are “good” and “bad” because god says they are, and for no other reason. And god is the highest good simply because he said that he is. The reason he gets to make those rules is that he’s the most powerful.

But thanks. And it only makes it more ironic what he’s complaining about, because personally, getting my hormones under control made me way more emotionally stable.
My condition was absolutely debilitating – I ended up doing 7th grade online at home, and it was miserable. If this idiot wants to take away medication that can keep a kid out of pain, I’d like to be first in line to personally rip his head off.
I’ll add, the alternatives for 15 y/o me would have been stronger pain medication, or surgery. (…I mean, I switched to testosterone hrt after turning 18, and I guess you could consider that an option since it does stop periods. But somehow I doubt more trans people is what he wants lmao.)
I didn’t see this mentioned in the article, but I skimmed parts of it. Do they realize that preventing pregnancy isn’t the only reason people use birth control? Are they planning on making medical exceptions? Let me be clear, it’s still hugely fucked up either way; I’m just curious.
I took BC for several years for my endometriosis, and I knew several friends who were prescribed it as teens to treat similar conditions. And sometimes they didn’t have a specific diagnosis, but they just had especially painful or frequent/heavy periods. Apart from that, aren’t there certain medical treatments that require you to take birth control for x number of weeks bc they could harm a potential fetus? I can’t remember a specific example.
And, yeah, preventing pregnancy is pretty damn important too. Fuck those guys.
No worries, I did understand what you meant, sorry if my tone made it sound like I was disagreeing. I think yours is a reasonable judgement. I’m sorry for what you’ve been through. I’m trans here too and this state is a mess. Always has been.
I respect anyone who chooses to leave, and I might leave one day. Still, there are good people here, and I care about this place, so I hope we can make things better.

I don’t get your point about gender affirming care. I mean, let’s say that the government punished doctors who prescribed medication for lowering blood pressure. Yes, you could say that it’s “equal rights” because no one is allowed to have the medication. But like, that still doesn’t make the law okay. And people with hypertension are still being unfairly denied access to healthcare, since the type that they need has been singled out. Does that make sense?
I also have a question regarding gendered bathrooms. If I understand, you believe that there should be men’s and women’s bathrooms, and that trans women should be required to use “men’s” bathrooms. I was curious, where would you choose to place trans masculine individuals (trans men or NB)?

It’s funny you should say this. There’s an orginazition in my home state called the Trans Advocacy Coalition of Oklahoma (TACO). It meets on tuesdays, of course.
Oklahoman here. I don’t know whether Nex died by suicide or not. But on a local level, the Owasso (and greater) community hasn’t given up the fight yet. Whether his injuries from the attack at school are what directly killed him or not, it doesn’t change the fact that he’d been a target of bullying for months and that he and his family were repeatedly ignored by the school and the police, and then he was beaten in the school bathroom by several classmates. Since his death, our politicians have doubled down on transphobic rhetoric, and our schools are still becoming more and more hostile towards LGBT+ youth. There’s a lot to talk about here, and local organizations have done a great job on covering these issues in press releases and the like. And there’s still more to come; we’re currently waiting on the release of the Medical Examiner’s full report (unless it’s been published already; I last checked about a week ago, and I just don’t have the emotional spoons today).
Anyway, sorry for going into a whole rant. What I was going to say, in reply to your comment, is that our OCME (office of the chief medical examiner) hasn’t been nationally accredited since 2009. So, um. There’s that. ¯\(°_o)/¯

It’s pretty common where I live, especially for people who grow up in conservative families. You start out assuming the trusted adults in your life are right about everything (or at least I did), but once you’re exposed to the world outside your bubble, you gradually (or not) change your mind on a lot of things.
I get that that’s different from, say, an adult with fully formed beliefs one day changing their mind, and that probably is pretty rare. Still, out of all the badass lefties I know, most of them did have at least a few years of cringy hardcore conservatism. 🤷
