4·14 days agoSo the automation is triggered if the power draw is above a certain amount? I assume there is a smart plug? Or is it a dishwasher with Wifi? Forgive me still learning how these things work.

6·18 days agoLooks great, can old Google location data be imported?
If you can figure out a better way please let me know 😭😭
How would you do presence detection (getting home)
I have a sensor on my front door that triggers an automation that sends a text to everyone’s phones that is (supposed to) trigger a location update. It then waits ten seconds and checks everyone’s phones to see what wifi network they are connected to, it then waits another ten seconds and if nobody’s location is “home”, or nobody’s wifi is the home network, then it texts everyone an alert of a possible break in.
Only about 50% of the time does it correctly identify someone legitimately coming home lol

I did the same, I wish it was more widely known that it was possible (and very easy with Zigbee2Mqtt).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you have a strong opinion on the death penalty?English
1·1 month agoI know, I’m adding to what you said. I’m saying unfairness is not an “issue” of capital punishment, it’s how it is, always has been, and is impossible to do without unfairness.

1·1 month agoHeaven is almost certainly not real, and I didn’t mention that. I only mentioned God as as example of something “greater” than man. I did not say God or heaven was real.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you have a strong opinion on the death penalty?English
2·1 month agoWhen you remember that in order to even get the death penalty, you have to be such a horrible person that you’re pretty much no longer human
This is just absolutely not true. Throughout history countless innocent people have been executed not because of the facts, but because they were unable to defend themselves against the accusations. Meanwhile, many wealthy or powerful people have been guilty but never even charged with a crime. In fact, the nature of a crime has almost zero correlation with the sentence.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you have a strong opinion on the death penalty?English
2·1 month agoIf you truly believe that all humans are equal then you must also believe that it is impossible for one to stand in judgment of another. I believe that killing is wrong because it is one human standing in judgement of another. Society has a duty to protect its members, but judgement and the concept of “punishment” is something that should be left to God.
This is a good point, I actually made that mistake once! It required their app to setup.
