With perks like that who needs donors and TV ad time? This isn’t the 80s. Elections aren’t won on television ads.
No, but they are still very much won with money. Advertising of various forms (TV, radio, Internet, billboards, yard signs, T-shirts, the list goes on), local outreach, field offices, door to door campaigners, booths at events, social media, and countless more. All of it is driven by money.
Citizens United fucked every election since. It exclusively dealt with campaign finance.
While I agree with you about swing voters, there is a very large number of potential non-voters, sometimes known as the enthusiasm gap. People that believe that both options are the same, or that neither will affect their lives very much. There’s also the ones that think Trump can’t get re-elected, which of course is part of how he got there in the first place.
There aren’t a lot of people excited to vote Biden. But we’ll do it anyway, because we really don’t want to see more Trump. If I didn’t see Trump as a threat to democracy itself, I could understand people not voting at all.
He’s actually been quite reserved on the issue. While he’s acknowledged it as a risk, he had not reached this point until now.
The incumbent advantage really doesn’t apply if it’s not who was elected in the first place. The only real advantage would be having a (short) record to run on. Even that assumes that (1) she would have one worth promoting, and (2) that people would care.
The bigger concern is that Harris really, REALLY is not popular. It would take a long time to convince people otherwise, if it could even be done. Hillary spent decades trying to build her image, including a full election cycle in earnest, and failed so miserably that we ended up with Trump.
Yup, and in a very public way. As I said, this has nothing to do with Trump’s morals or anything. It’s about Epstein’s risk tolerance.
And it’s statements like that (and many more) which would make Epstein unwilling to take the risk.
It’s not really about Trump; it’s about Epstein.
You’re focusing on the wrong guy. Do you think Epstein would’ve taken the risk?
If we’re being honest, Trump probably wasn’t a patron. Not because of his morals or anything, but because he would’ve been excluded.
Epstein knew that what he was doing needed to be kept quiet. Trump has always been the loudest person in any room, making him a massive liability.
It’s unlikely that Epstein would’ve told him anything.
That’s not really part of their mission. SS is traditionally a completely non-partisan role. They are not lackeys, just protectors.
Trump may (and will) bitch about it, but he’ll either abide by the terms of his probation or go to jail. If that means supervised drug tests, then that’s what he’ll have to do.
Offenders don’t really get a whole of say in the matter once it gets past the court system.
Secret service’s #1 job is the security of their protectee. While it usually comes up regarding children, the SS will turn a blind eye to any of their misdeeds. This is because the very last thing they want is for the protectee to ditch their protection.
As an example, the SS was present (albeit at a slight distance) when the Bush girls were arrested for underage drinking.
If Trump is using drugs, he does so with the SS’ awareness. Although that might create a logistical problem with dealers…
In many states, driving a vehicle uninsured is a crime. They’re admitting they’ve been committing this crime for quite awhile?
In many states (mine included), you don’t technically need insurance. You have to show proof of financial responsibility, and that only has to meet some surprisingly low standards. IIRC, you only have to prove you can pay for $7,500 in damages. Or if you meet certain other criteria, you can self-insure.
He earned that money, not them. If they want to get paid, they can setup their own Go Fund Me.
-Trump, probably
Adding onto this, these are just the US federal requirements. Different states, particularly California, restrict that even further.
ETA: Many other countries have stronger worker protections than the US. They also have the same levels of greed, and sometimes the same level of abuse. Don’t assume it’s legal just because they put it on paper; research your area’s employment laws.
Depending on where you are, it still may not be legal. Law overrides contracts.
“Fun” fact: In 2020, more people voted for Donald Trump than for any candidate in any previous election. It’s a feat that Joe Biden also did at the same time, plus an extra 7 million votes.
There are a surprising number of people that think their options are either voting for the Republican that’s blasting them in the ass or the Democrat that’s blasting them in the ass. There are also a bunch that truly don’t see their lives changing much, regardless of who wins.
Convincing them that one option will be better for them/their loved ones/the world is difficult, but very possible. This also includes motivating supporters to cast a ballot at all.
Money in a political campaign is the single biggest factor in its performance at the polls.
It’s possible in the US, but generally not at common gas stations. You have to find marine or airport gas stations. The only other place I’ve ever seen it is a place called Sheetz.
Generally speaking, they answered by moving to urban areas.
Yes, and they’ve also started it with Harris.
