Too many Democrats still think their copilot is a rational actor and not a coked out gorilla. Reaching across the aisle hasn’t been an option for at least a decade but the democrats want to just act like the coked out gorilla holding the other yoke is willing to go back to a pre-Reagan era of collaborative legislation. We need to vote the republican party out of relevance, and then vote the apologist democrats out if relevance to so we can get some actual election reform
They always seem to forget freedom of association is included in the first amendment, and that includes the right to tell Someone you don’t like them and don’t want to be around them

None of the messaging metadata is encrypted. They use that metadata to build profiles of people who aren’t Facebook or Instagram users that interact with Facebook and Instagram users. If you care about profiling for the sake of avoiding social engineering attacks, it’s one of your worst choices. If all you care about is protecting the contents of your messages, yeah, it’s pretty okay

OCI uses Dockerfiles and runs Docker images as docker images are just KVM image, which is what OCI runs. Nix is absolute overkill for the orchestration of a web server workload and would be better for managing the container host (whatever you’re running kubernetes or docker swarm on).
I don’t really know how to put this, but nearly every single web service you encounter and interact with is built using a dockerfile just like how Lemmy is doing. If you’re going to disqualify Lemmy as a viable platform based on it having a dockerfile, I got bad news

Furthermore, it’s great that you can block someone without reporting them here. You can just kinda look at a comment history and be like “None of this is rule breaking, but you’re just a jerkass, and I do not care to associate with you.” Further, you can block communities without that being a damnation of that community. Don’t know German? Just block the German communities and they won’t show in your feed. It’s not because they’re bad subs, and you want them to go away. You just don’t care about them
Reddit gamified participation, and the result was an addiction to trying to say things that people would click the updoot for. Here, the comment / post score is used purely to determine the relevance and value of the individual comments and posts. I think the result is clear: people feel less compelled to post the meme, the shitpost, the expected something and are more likely to express a thought they have, or think is valuable to the conversation.
The result is less stuff, but the stuff is more nuanced, interesting, and engaging (even if the engagement metrics are lower). It’s also a less stressful environment to interact with, and is just kinda all around better since no one is trying to profit
There also seems to be a deeper sense of community, at least in a few instances and communities, than I’ve experienced in a long time, excluding some of the more niche-er subs
100%, and I see SO MANY pissy high brow leftists working against their own best interests here on Lemmy. We need to show democrats that we have the voting power to stop the parade of neo liberals in big elections when the average democrat voter is social liberal (and the non-participant would be voters and third party voters are even more socially oriented than that)
