  • Tbf I expected way better of Americans than to fall for Trump twice.

The Democratic Party might as well give up if they are still going to try to keep rooting for same old, same old. Blame media both sidesing and sanewashing, blame unlimited money in politics, blame your average voter’s lack of critical thought. If the party leadership doesn’t want change, if media doesn’t want actual change, then it’s hard to expect anything good from them for the time being. Governor Kathy Hochul is a prime example, she keeps kneecapping good policies at the last second like proper right to repair and congestion pricing, thinking like playing political games is going to help anyone. It’s not, it only hurts us.

All blue states and blue cities in purple and red states can do right now is show themselves as shining beacons of democracy and progress as the remainder of states get absolutely screwed by the feds. The Dem party as a whole needs to take a moment and rethink its strategy.

  • From what I gather, Trump has said basically everything in response to stuff, and people selectively hear or social media just filters through the message from him they want to hear.

Some of the stunts like swaying to music for 30 minutes and play-acting a McDonald’s worker make him look a bit cute and silly, but Harris isn’t held to even the same dimension of standards – by media, by voters and even by her own supporters.

There are hundreds of things Trump has done that would have tanked any other person’s campaign in the last 60 years. But his case is that he would do all of these things to somehow fix the country. He is selling fake snake oil solutions and people bought it hook line and sinker again.

I’m in shock… Good luck to you, American Democracy. It was nice knowing ya.

This time there’s no saying you didn’t know. This time there’s no saying “well more voters wanted different”. You get what you get, apparently enough people fall for “look over there” types of distractions in politics.

The clock to progress has been set back at least 10 years. I know digital-age low-information fascism is on its way to Canada and I am definitely not ready.

  • I get your point, but the folks at MSNBC have been consistently more critical of Trump than the other networks.

And you’re not wrong that the USA is fucked for even entertaining the idea of Trump, but you’ll be waiting a long time if you’re sitting around hoping people become less dumb, selfish and would cut off their nose to spite their face. Try not to lose sleep over it, but at the same time if you were able to get even one person who was Trump supporting, undecided or uninterested to vote for Harris that is a positive thing.

  • I’m not holding my breath for any result favourable or unfavourable.

Victory is not assured, unless people get their friends, coworkers, relatives and families to vote on or before Nov 5 to protect the freedom and democratic institutions that you have enjoyed that Donald Trump is promising to take away for himself. Optimism and hope is good, don’t despair, just be aware and get the vote out.

America can handle the whining, complaining, lawsuiting snowflakes after you get job #1 done.

  • If this were British Columbia, before you vote you must make a declaration that you are eligible and did not vote already.

If you voted earlier/somewhere else, you could choose to show up at any polling place later, as long as you do not make the false declaration to receive your second ballot, you will not have committed fraud. The election person can be like, oh the digital record shows you voted already, and you can walk out. In remote areas, the paper voter roll of local voters will show whether they know you voted or not but other paper locations will not (if your polling location was way out in the sticks and you went to another rural place to vote). Mail ins are much the same, your name and signature on the declaration is the same thing as the verbal affirmation.

I know Trump’s supporters are bad at logic, but this should show that these processes stop enough voter fraud to the point that you it’s not really they need to get all worked up about.
