Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why the ultrarich come after trans people ?English6·5 months agoThis smoke screen around LGBTQ+ and anti immigration has been stoked for nearly 30 years in order to veer away from the actual discussion and laws around wealth inequality, healthcare, etc. It’s all a guise against minority groups who can’t fight back. Sometimes positive sometimes negative, but at the end of the day billionaires stoke the fear around these minority groups and they get to keep growing their billions without restriction.

Sl00k@programming.devOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex migration from Windows to LinuxEnglish3·5 months agoEverything was freshly installed and updated including the OS (PopOS as I’m running it on my gaming PC)
Sl00k@programming.devto politics @lemmy.world•Opinion | Voters punished Biden for problems he didn’t cause and effectively addressedEnglish42·8 months agoDemocracy seems to be crumbling pretty hard to shitty education systems combined with heavy propaganda and misinformation. I’ve been trying to think of a solution that still allows a proper resilient democratic system to thrive, but I’m not sure one exists.
Yeah 3.5 was pretty ass w bugs but could write basic code. 4o helped me sometimes with bugs and was definitely better, but would get caught in loops sometimes. This new o1 preview model seems pretty cracked all around though lol
Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are your thoughts on inner martial arts?English42·10 months agoNot sure entirely where this fits into this conversation, but one thing I’ve found really interesting that’s discussed in this Convo w Dr. K (I don’t have a timestamp sorry). Tai Chi has much more significant affect on all health perspectives than typical Western running/jogging/yoga etc.
And research papers can note this, but as soon as researchers start attempting to dig into the actual mechanical process behind why it has such a significant affect, their papers will be rejected because it dips too far into Woo/Spiritual territory despite not describing what the woo is, just acknowledging that “something” is there happening.
I think it’s interesting we can measure results and attempt to explain what we’re seeing but western research tends to be so tied to physical mechanisms it has almost started hindering our advancement.
Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are modern LLMs closer to AGI or next word predictor? Where do they fall in this graph with 10 on x-axis being human intelligence.English5·10 months agoI can’t seem to find the research paper now, but there was a research paper floating around about two gpt models designing a language they can use between each other for token efficiency while still relaying all the information across which is pretty wild.
Not sure if it was peer reviewed though.

Mom and pop landlords in my experience always attempt to skirt around laws and just out right down respect them.
The golden experience to me has always been small businesses landlords who aren’t quite corporate yet, might own a building or two, but generally small in the grand scheme of things. They ofc eventually sell out to the corporate ownership anyways.

Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Any way to group communities across difference instances together ?5·2 years agoThis is actually the problem with mid sized communities. If there’s two political communities and their content is 70% overlapping then you’re obviously going to unsubscribe from one as your feed becomes cluttered. But then you’re missing that 30% of content from the other community.
One single god God, perhaps what makes a god a god? I do believe we form a network or web of connected consciousness. Who’s contained within this web and how interactions work on it is where it gets interesting.
Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What discontinued feature do you miss from phones or other technologies?1·2 years agoBut honestly it’s not a huge deal, I swapped an esim in under 3 minutes last week
Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What discontinued feature do you miss from phones or other technologies?24·2 years agophysical sim card trays
Seems like a backwards move IMO. honestly haven’t needed a tray in ~6 years
Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What discontinued feature do you miss from phones or other technologies?46·2 years agoBeing able to rip the battery out when the phone locks up
How often does your phone lock up that that’s necessary? I used to have lockups a lot more but android is damn stable now, haven’t had one in years.
Needing to make sure it’s actually off and can’t be remotely powered on
Do you disconnect your PC’s PSU?
When it’s 3 years old and the hardware is still well up to the task but the battery lasts 4 hours.
Fair, but if you’re getting 4 hours SOT after 3 years, it’s just not a great phone. My current Note 10+ still pumping out 10 hours SOT and I’m a HEAVY user.
Honestly in 2015 I’m totally on your side for this, but in the last few years I’ve never felt the need to hotswap batteries, and only slightly felt the need to replace it in general.
Sl00k@programming.devto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What discontinued feature do you miss from phones or other technologies?2·2 years agoJust curious, what situations do you find yourself in relatively frequently that a hot swappable batter would be more convenient?
Nowadays w/ 15 SOT I don’t think I’ve actually needed one minus camping where I don’t really use my phone much anyways.
Sl00k@programming.devto Politics@beehaw.org•A confused Dianne Feinstein tried to give a speech in the middle of a Senate hearing vote and was told to 'just say aye' instead3·2 years agoYou can easily make this argument towards teenagers as well, but they’re obviously illegible. Yet their rights and futures are being stripped away by the elderly.
There should absolutely be a hard cap and Senators should also be forced to use the services they provide (i.e. stop making millions stock trading) post retirement so it’s guaranteed to be beneficial.
Sl00k@programming.devto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Best self hosted photo manager for multi userEnglish4·2 years agoTagging onto this: Does anyone know of the easiest way to backfill Immich with photos from Google photos all at once besides manually downloading them from the Photos site?
I spent a lot of time trying to find an open source self hosted tool to replace mint and ended up just moving to Monarch and paying. Honestly it’s been a really great experience as if long as you don’t mind the annual $50.
