  • It’s also not just the US. In Canada we are constantly told that we must stop dreaming about electing our main progressive party and that we must rally around the increasingly conservative centrist party. Centrists demand sacrifice but refuse to ever give anything in return. They are cowardly obstacles, not serious people.

Our last election saw the NDP lose official party status because of a lack of votes, the Conservatives are still highly supported and will get in eventually when they’re even crazier, and the Liberals we elected are the most conservative they’ve even been down to letting private companies steal our natural resources with fewer consequences all while helping ones like Air Canada by trying to declare the flight attendant strike illegal. People said our prime minister being a banker would help us this economy but he shown that he would rather weaken the average citizen than help them.

At least right-wingers spew their hate with their whole chest. Centrists are just cowards, nothing more.

  • It’s always the progressives who need to rally behind the centrist, isn’t it? Never the other way around because you’re just a coward.

How about you grow even an inch of a spine and rally behind someone who wants to make real change? How about you stop spending you life on this planet being nothing more than a barrier? Get it together.

I really don’t give a damn whether you hate me or not, your opinion is worthless. You don’t know the first fucking thing about togetherness, just empty platitudes that make you comfortable so you don’t need to actually face anything difficult.

  • Hey, buddy? Shut the fuck up.

The US is in the mess because of worthless people like you who get angry at anyone who hopes for more. People say “hey can we not do better than complete garbage?” and you feel the need to tell them that they’re wrong. Gavin Newsom will not dig you out of the hole you’re in, nor will any other center-right corporate stooge.

I say this with my whole heart: I hate you.

  • Here in Canada we have three major parties and a few minor ones. A decade or more ago ago our three major parties could be described as progressive, centerist, and conservative. These days they can be referree to as progressive, conservative/center-right, and far-right.

How many people do you suppose switched from the Conservitives to the Liberals, from the originally conservative to the now conservative/center-right, in more recent years as the parties changed their alignment and began representing different people? Next to fucking no one. Most originally Conservative voters, if they genuinely believed in what they were saying, should be voting Liberal right now as that party now aligns with their supposed views more closely. Liberals, likewise, only care about voting for the party that puts itself between the two options on either side, calling anyone to the right or left “extreme” or “idealists” no matter what their positions actually are and so it’s difficult to get them to actually make real change.

The moral of this story is that MAGA voters are voting based on following their tribe around and they are completely locked into branding and stereotypes. They believe anything they’re told because they want to align themselves with an image, not vote for a representative. The more this shit goes on the more I think the world needs to ban the idea of political parties so that voters have to actually listen to the campaign promises of candidates.

  • They love hockey and endure the cold? Bro I very clearly tried to come around a little bit but holy shit if that’s what you go to first for similarities and not major cultural differences, like the fact that much of the state actually voted for Donal Trump, then this conversation is not going to move at much of a pace.

And yea, there’s been a change but to be honest it’s been the classic people not paying any attention. We still voted Liberal in the past despite them always being very similar to how they are now, and their trend right-ward has always been there. They’re always elected because they try to scare people out of voting NDP, not because they actually offer anything that special. It’s literally why they went back on the voting reform they ran on in 2015.

Also “…” are not replacements for periods.

  • You said that you wouldn’t put the US super far right of Canada. At first I argued but honestly, with our level of ignorance despite the facts screaming at us, it’s pretty correct to say that we are largely a center-right nation right now and only getting further from progressiveness.

I’m speaking for the country as a whole since that’s the level of generalization this conversation already started with(state-wide in Minnesota’s case). We, meaning Canadians as a whole, are quite ignorant of politics, generally just doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result because learning about new things is harder than just stereotyping the branding of our ideas of each party. Has all the energy of Conservatives genuinely believing that the Liberals are woke progressives just for the majority of the country.

  • The fact you don’t at all hnderstand why we wouldn’t want you, aren’t understanding what this person is saying, and seem to want to tell us what the problem is despite us laying out why we don’t like you in very clear language is exactly the kind of bullshit that makes us want to stay far, far away from that garbage.

The US sucks, and even at its best it’s nowhere near even the mediocrity that is Canada. We do not need to tip the scales even further right, we do not need to throw gasoline on the fire.

  • Sounds like they probably should have been a little bossier. This is i credibly serious stuff and they just let it move at a snail’s pace? And what, it was so important and they were so sure they’d win the next election? The next election where they had momentum, realized it was because of progressive messaging and appealing to younger voters, and then tanked the whole thing with center-right branding because they haye winning?

No matter how you slice it it was weak bullshit.
