An entire city built and run by a single billionaire… what could possibly go wrong?
An entire city built and run by a single billionaire… what could possibly go wrong?
I am Jewish. My mom is Israeli. I have friends and family living in Israel right now. I lived in Israel for a year a few decades ago. I was there when Rabin was assassinated and things went from “peace in the middle east at last!” to “Bibi committing war crimes for a few decades.” I am so critical of the Israeli government’s actions toward Palestinians that I have had to mute all my family group chats since October.
But I have to agree that anti-Zionism feels like antisemitism. You can be critical of the Israeli government without the belief that Israel shouldn’t exist. You can want the Palestinians to have their own state without the belief that Israel shouldn’t exist. I’m not sure what anti-Zionists think would happen to all the Jews living in Israel if it were just magically given to the Palestinians overnight, but here’s a hint: Hamas, the people running Palestine, literally, factually want to kill them all.
No, I don’t think what Israel has done to the Palestinians for decades is in any way acceptable or moral. But any solution at this point will have to involve safety for everyone not just one side or the other.
That’s my $0.02. I expect to get a lot of flack for being so open about myself and my beliefs. I probably should have made a throwaway account but whatever. Hopefully this doesn’t bite me in the ass.
EDIT - Just to also add that I don’t think it’s black and white that all anti-Zionist are antisemites. But it FEELS that way. And I think part of the issue is that antisemites are using anti-Zionism to spread antisemitism.
Shocking! Next they’re going to imply that Trump somehow was affiliated with a riot or something!
Shocking!! They’ve never done ANYTHING like this before! They’ve always been so wholesome and responsible when it comes to this exact issue!
Vegas has a rich tradition of taking visitors for every dime they have. This absurd charge is no different than the “resort fee” they charge at hotels. And good luck trying to get tickets to a popular concert or sports event at anywhere close to face value.
As a local, all I can say is thank you for my lack of state income tax. :-D
The tipping for Uber Eats/Door Dash drives me up a wall. If I’m getting one small bag of food, why would I pay the delivery driver a percentage of the cost of the food? Why should a delivery from Chez Snooty tip more than a delivery from McDonalds if they’re both the same amount of work for the delivery driver and they’re providing the exact same service?? Now the LOWEST option in the app that’s not custom is 18% and it defaults to 20%. WTF?? I already pay extra for the delivery!! You’re supposed to use that money to pay your employees. If you can’t, then your business model isn’t sustainable!

JFC. There’s an opioid shortage too and for the same apparent reason: the federal government setting limits on manufacturers.
I have cancer and have been on oxycodone daily for many months now. Last time I needed a refill, I almost couldn’t get any in time before running out. Got it literally the night I took my last one. Can you imagine dealing with cancer pain AND opioid withdrawal symptoms at the same time? Why should I have to deal with that?
And why should all the families dealing with ADHD have to deal with shortages of drugs to treat that? This whole situation is fucking absurd.
This is one of those shows that parents and kids can all enjoy for different reasons, so it’s on a lot at my house as well.
Futurama for sure. There’s so much going on in every episode, it’s easy to find new things (or things you just forgot) on rewatch.
Gillian Anderson. I couldn’t even find her phone number. Total dead end.
“The days get shorter in the winter.”
Actually winter begins on the shortest day of the year so the days are getting longer in the winter.
Yeah those aren’t the kinds of questions I’m talking about. I’m talking about ones with objective answers that can be easily searched.
Obviously.
Youtube videos have terrible audio. Any of the streaming audio services (even Youtube Music) will sound better.
As far as how I listen, I use wi-fi to speakers or wi-fi to streamer/dac/amp/headphones depending.
Surprising how many people won’t just go search for the answer to their question before asking it online.
That’s one of the only BOOKS that’s has scared me. Stephen King didn’t scare me as much as that book did!
I can’t believe I just scrolled through 77 responses and nobody said “Poltergeist” yet!
Creepy clown on the chair, monster unter the bed, tree tapping at the window, coffins in the pool, whispers in the dark (“Get… out…”), little girl staring at static on the TV, etc. So much of it has become tropes now, but that’s because they were so effective the first time!
They also “leaked” copies of the film for months before it came out. I saw a leaked copy in the dorms in college. Never heard of it, my friends told me it was real footage that had been found in the woods from a group that had been lost. For the first… probably half of the movie, I was convinced it was real.
Very enjoyable experience. I feel bad for all the people who saw it after the hype and were too cool to let themselves be scared by it.
I’m not a fan. It’s laid out weird, like a Apple app or something. I just couldn’t get used to it.
Connect and Jerboa are the two I’m trying to decide between now.
It’s up there with Starship Troopers for “movies you didn’t realize were meant to be negative commentary when you were a teenager”.
I wonder if it matters that they buy a lot of their power from other states like NV (which has a ton of solar and a somewhat famous hydro-electric dam). I feel like it’s great that CA is doing this but it would be better if it they were closer to self-sufficient.
