Serious response: you can’t really make a very general rule. There are a lot of people who write quite maturely since their teens, and a lot of people who are morons since their teens and have endless dedication and determination to remain in that state for as long as they breathe.

Really, all the drama surrounding instances federating/defederating is obnoxious as an end user.
On the other hand, subreddit dramas where a good portion of the userbase got alienated usually ended up with the users getting beaten into submission, and either shutting up or getting banned. It’s a bit annoying, but it’s still better than the other alternative we know.
I take it the Language Council serves a similar role to the Spanish or French Academy of Language, and that it takes a prescriptive attitude, correct?
There are things for which there is no Reddit alternative yet. Does it suck you have to use it? Sure. But you aren’t evil for using a platform with terrible management for discussing something important to you (especially if it’s related to work) when there’s no viable alternative. You may try starting a parallel community here, and perhaps it’d turn into something great years from now on, but that’s no solution to a need you have right now.
