If you murder me by shooting me in the back of the head while I’m not looking, that’s not torture.
Obviously I still don’t want you to kill me, but… It’s still not torture, it’s a different thing, and we have different words for that… it’s murder, or killing, or slaughter.
Please keep in mind I’m not making a moral or ethical judgement, but a definitional one. Torture is a different thing.
If, as you say
there’s no way to avoid torturing an animal while taking their life when they don’t want to die.
How are you defining torture?
Did I torture my dearly beloved pets when they had cancer or infections bad enough that I had to have them put down? No! What an odd and cruel thing that would be for me to say!
But they still didn’t want to die, and I didn’t want them to either. That’s not torture.

I’m only peripherally aware of the SCP community, but I really enjoy browsing the stories… what’s fallen apart about it?
She should be aware that likely almost 100% of those returned clothes are going to the dump. Unless this is a very reputable seller, with a trustworthy supply line, even if they say they recycle or resell, they likely don’t.
I was just thinking about the Beau Brummel episode. He was almost an actually good guy too. One of the least bastardly people to be covered.

Have you considered tiddlywiki? You can selfhost, or use one of a couple of services. I know of https://tiddlyhost.com/
Also you could consider anytype. It’s cool, and I like what they’re going for. I don’t like their weird pretending to be open source license, but it’s still pretty cool software. https://anytype.io
Edit: for my personal stuff, I use a combination of logseq, and tiddlywiki, the latter moreso for game development. I landed on anytype at work because it’s simple, and my boss, nor anyone else cares about a license, and it just works.
Since we’re talking about it, and I really like the guy’s work, I figured I should say who coined it! Author, Cory Doctorow! He has a blog where he (among all the other stuff he writes about) defined the word, and wrote several articles about it.

This is likely the most asinine thing I hear on a regular basis. Speed limits exist for a reason. If driving the speed limit actually created a hazard, rather than simply creating an annoyance for someone who is willing to drive recklessly to shave a few seconds off their trip, you might have a point, but you don’t.
The only circumstance where it creates a hazard is if everyone else around them is speeding, in which case, the people who are speeding are creating the hazard, not the person following the laws, you know, the ones that are there to enforce safety on the roads.

This is not ghosting. Can’t speak on the rest. People are complicated, and their life seems more complicated than most from what little you said.
