That’s on TOP of traumatizing them, taking away their future by denying them an education and further complicating their employment prospects by giving them an arrest record.

I wish that was true, but unfortunately gaslighting and other forms of propaganda is much more effective than most people think.

You don’t have to be an idiot to be fooled by effective messaging and messaging doesn’t have to make sense to be effective.

No no, you’ve got it backwards: NYT is paying competent people obscene amounts of money to be as willfully obtuse as humanly possible without too many readers catching on.

See their coverage of anything to do with cops, Israel, conservative Democrats (including but not limited to the entirety of the DNC leadership), and “moderate Republicans” (actually paleoconservatives made to look less extreme by literal fascists and anarcho-capitalists taking over).

They’re not the “paper of record” because of the quality of their reporting as much as their popularity amongst the rich and powerful who decide what goes on the record.

I read the penultimate one as “EAT RIGHT FOR BETTER DEATH” at first 😄

As is pretending that, just because it’s unprecedented to do ANYTHING about it, his means tested to death efforts were anywhere near enough.

In fact, the very means testing was HOW they managed to throw it out in court: by arguing that it’s discriminatory to give debt relief to some, but not all.

You and I know that it’s just a pretense, but if he had NOT included all of those overly restrictive terms and conditions, they couldn’t use that and might not have succeeded.

And before you chime in with “but we have to make sure that only those who REALLY need debt relief gets it”, first of all, no.

Making sure that all the people that DO need it get it and get it easily is many times more important than making sure that people who don’t need it as badly won’t.

Second of all, the truly rich don’t HAVE student loans: if they came from a rich family, their parents paid outright, and if not, they did so themselves later. Nobody’s at risk of paying Elon Musk’s student loans.

This from the same DeWine who just a couple weeks ago told Nazis that their “hate is not welcome here”.

Like Ben Carson, Mehmet Oz might have been a great surgeon, but now he’s a filthy rich net negative to society like most if not all of the other Trump picks.

And also like Ben Carson, he’s living proof that you can be extremely well educated and skilled and still be a fucking idiot.

That risks creating a perverse incentive that in turn makes Walmart stop helping workers get government assistance without paying them a living wage.

Much better to tie the fines to the profits of the company, the one thing they wouldn’t sacrifice for ANYTHING.
