Okay, maybe he would have alienated like a small percentage of liberals that thought he was “too radical” and he will bring a holodomor on the US for some reason. Maybe some of those Bernie bros were just troll pretending to like him, so they could play the “why I left the left”. Still, he not only could have won a lot of Republicans, but even more people who normally abstaining from voting.
It’ll go in waves. Currently both the Fediverse and BlueSky are cozy places, and as they continue to further decay, both are going to gain more and more users. I’m less on these kinds of platforms, but I started to instead doomscroll way less and either watch more videos or are more productive. We maybe even should call this movement “social media detox”.
“The adults” can’t restore lost lives, and depending on how much “the adults” think they should take the moral high ground, they may only undo some of the damage, while normalize the rest.
Now they also control the social media platform that liberals and leftists used for organizing.
Even then, it was better than nothing. “Theory” is very dry, and is menacing to those who have been taught by the current school systems, as they’re being taught that socialism is an “extreme” ideology, and is “probably worse” than nazism, because it killed more people on paper. Also you can just make lower effort videos without the fanfare of Philosophy Tube, or the multi-month research HBomberguy or Shaun does.
Also note that a lot of leftist YouTubers have either retired or moved to Nebula, a platform where their videos are harder to reach. Guess who didn’t paywalled their videos! Your crappy gaming streamers creating reaction videos to crappy right-wing grifters whining about “masculinity in gaming” and how some video game women aren’t fuckable enough for them.
There’s a lot of christian fundamentalists among them too, and I think the “sitting out of it” could have affected that demographic too.
A lot of them thought it won’t be that bad, or it’s just a bluff.

A lot of them thinking that Trump isn’t meant to be taken literally, thus will look away at a lot of things.
