My rage wouldn’t let me finish the article. Fuck these fuckers, fuck everyone who votes for these fuckers, and fuck everyone who keeps trying to tell me we should just try to “understand” how Republicans got to where they are.

As long as they think fascism will only hurt the people they want hurt, they will go right along. By the time they realize their mistake it will be too late.
Good point and probably not, but I’m too lazy to look right now.
Edited to add: Presumably same editorial team, so the seeming dissonance between the two articles isn’t lessened much by having different authors.
Same paper that just ran the “Women should stop shunning Trump supporters in their dating pool” article. I guess that’s so they’ll be less likely to abused under the pending dictatorship?
A bit meta, but Is there a unified article anyone can point me to that discusses all the different fediverse video options (IIRC peertube is not the only one) with a overview of how their usage differs from youtube?
I’ve found peertube to be interesting ever since it was new, but have had very little luck finding anything I wanted on it when I’ve tried using it.
That’s actually a great example - my water bottle is so bright i looks like it should burn you if you touch it - and for exactly that reason. 😁
That was my logic too. Wait until you’ve been doing it for decades.
(In all seriousness it’s totally a personal preference, but I’m glad I stopped.)
I don’t buy personal electronics, phone cases, or other items in black if I have the option. Not quite as rigorously I’ve stopped buying black or dark clothing where possible. Decades of buying everything in black or darker shades as the default and at some point I realized it’s pretty damn bland and makes everything harder to find if lost.
Here’s an organization that studies and categorizes Coup d’État against a specific set of criteria.
Here is their statement about Jan 06.
That statement provides links to their methodology and dataset, as well as other details.
Here is an excerpt:
The Cline Center’s Coup d’État Project is the world’s largest global registry of failed and successful coups. The Cline Center defines a coup as an “organized effort to effect sudden and irregular (e.g., illegal or extra-legal) removal of the incumbent executive authority of a national government, or to displace the authority of the highest levels of one or more branches of government.” To be categorized as a coup, an event must meet the following criteria (which are detailed at greater length in the Coup d’État Project codebook):
-There must be some person or persons who initiated the coup.
-The target of the coup must have meaningful control over national policy.
-There must be a credible threat to the leaders’ hold on power.
-Illegal or irregular means must be used to seize, remove, or render powerless the target of the coup.
-It must be an organized effort.
Summary
Using the Cline Center’s Coup d’État Project definitions, the storming of the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 was an attempted coup d’état: an organized, illegal attempt to intervene in the presidential transition by displacing the power of the Congress to certify the election. In terms of the type of coup attempt, the complex nature of this event leads it to be categorized as both an attempted auto-coup and as an attempted dissident coup, reflecting the separate activities of distinctive actors involved in the event.
I’m sure there are plenty of lovely spaces out there too ofc, it’s just finding them that’s the trick :)
Thanks for the followup - I have to agree and I suppose the takeaway is I (possibly) picked the wrong servers so far.
Maybe (though this is not the description I typically see about reddit these days) but a great many of us are here because we refuse to be there.
It’s a group chat app, not a forum. And being thrown into a group chat with 100 strangers is kind of the worst.
I do appreciate that nuance but IRC (as of last I checked - admittedly it’s been about a decade since I was habitually connected to IRC) is not really like that despite fitting essentially the same description.
Discord shines when you use it with a tight-knit group. A RL friend group, a gaming clan, etc.
That makes sense, I can see that.
Feeds are the secret at Bluesky. Once you have a few of those you like, look at deck.blue.
I have ignored Discord for years until recently. It just seems like IRC with a lot of flashiness and emojis. Is there more to this experience? I don’t intend to be disparaging, but I looked for some specific topic servers and just found the quality of discussion to be low and the experience to be chaotic.
I’m willing to be told I’m doing it wrong though - is there a “here’s the right way to get into discord” approach I’m missing?
Ah, hello fellow old person. 🙂
We live in a great time for portable audio to be able to get this kind of sound and performance out of something we can carry with us everywhere we go
Not only do I agree, but my first portable music player was a knock off one of these, so it’s possible that I love the current state of things so much partly because I’ve seen how shitty it could be. 😁
Samsung phone, so not sure the money I invested in my DAP setup has been worth it, and I probably wouldn’t do it again.
So, I’ve always considered myself a bit of an unfulfilled audiophile. Have never had the free cash that I was willing to spend to get all the audiophile gear, but yet I can definitely tell (surprisingly so) that I pay more attention to how my music sounds than most people I know including family members.
My unpopular opinion is FLAC via Navidrome (transcoding disabled) –> Symphonium Client on my phone (with a good bit of time spent tweaking EQ/DSP settings to my liking) –> Buds2 Pro is probably somehow still inferior to what I’d be getting with an audiophile setup, but it’s honestly so breathtakingly lovely to listen to sometimes that it’s hard for me to imagine it getting that much better.
I’m aware there is room to go above that, but it already sounds so damn nice it’s hard for me to imagine it being worth much more effort or expense.
If anything, I haven’t used a set of good over ear headphones since decades ago, and I could see that being a big step up.
Maybe there are some of those people. I still doubt they (or anyone voting for him) is going to be swayed by his use of the N-word.
