  • Bruh… That quoted text says that it is a monotheistic religion. Please just learn the thing and don’t die on the hill. They have a holy book (the guru granth sahib ji), together with a wider collection of religious and philosophical works (the bani). They have rituals and the like. Things like the 5 Ks. They believe in a singular deity (Ik Onkar) who is, according to Sikhism, the same deity that the Muslims call Allah. Onkar is the Punjabi symbol for Aum (A very important Hindu concept). The gurus (their leaders), are supposed to be god. The idea is that they are a reflection of God, likening God to the ocean and the gurus to a bucket that is filled by the ocean. Their holy book is the last and final guru and simultaneously god and leader/teacher.

Point of the above is I know what I am talking about. All of those are definitely religions with a belief in deities and afterlifes and holy books and miracles, etc…

I don’t know much about digiKam, but looking at it got me interested in checking it out! One problem I have with Immich is that there is really good Android integration with its app, but poor Desktop integration (I use a web app).

For Immich, I suppose you could mount an external library and use that same folder for digiKam. Immich will store its own set of files in its data structure for the external library, not the pictures just it’s own metadata as I understand it. Any changes will be reflected in Immich after a library scan. (I will be trying this option soon.😁)

You could do the same with Nextcloud by just mounting the Nextcloud drive and setting its photos folder as the folder for digiKam, I suppose. You would be losing out mainly on Android integration with the Immich app. I can’t whatever the opposite of recommend the Nextcloud options enough.

Nope. No issues whatsoever. DigitalOcean is great. Just curious what this community thought. My main concern is, again, one of choosing as ethical a solution as I can find. I cited Amazon because they are a nightmare company for many reasons and would rather not give them money. With that said, I would also like a service that I can rely on.

I am thinking about proton mail, but I want to try to host an email sever with one of my cheap throwaway domains to see if it would be worth self hosting for my main domain. That’s the other part of why I am choosing to self host. I am genuinely curious how stuff works under the hood.
