I guarantee she has a nice cushy lobbyist position lined up for Big Oil after pushing that bill through. She could give two shits about reelection with that fallback.

The shortage is artificial. You’d know that if you read the links you requested and then downvoted without reading.
Private equity bought excessive amounts of properties while interest rates were low during covid. They’re sitting on the properties to keep value high while slowly selling them off.
That’s the whole reason Abbott and DeSantis proposed getting rid of property taxes and increasing state income tax. Then private equity could sit on those properties indefinitely.
As of last count in January 2024, there were 771,480 unhoused people in the US. Blackstone alone owns more than 300,000 residencies.
Nationwide there are 16 million vacant homes — that’s 28 vacant homes for every unhoused person.

Fortunately, we don’t need to build any new homes at all. We just need to repossess all vacant homes owned by private equity and distribute them among the unhoused. Easy peasy.
Word on the street is that the Majority Whip offered merch signed by Trump for their votes.

Nah. I’ve been left of the Democrats since the 90s, but I’ve always been very engaged in politics. Protesting, volunteering for elections, occasional stumping…
I loudly support good actions on Lemmy, because users always seem happy to provide the criticism. There’s no such thing as a good or bad person, just good and bad actions. This was a good action, that I believe warranted recognition.
Keep finding reasons to hate on good actions by Democrats. This post is about Jeffries doing what he can to bring attention to the vote with the little control he has.
You’re the shmuck making it about the NYS mayoral race, and it’s not even your city. The Dems deserve plenty of criticism. It’s childish to shoehorn it into every post.
If you must talk about Jeffries representing his constituents, you should be informed. His district (NY-8, East Brooklyn) voted overwhelmingly for Cuomo. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/06/24/us/elections/nyc-mayor-primary-results-precinct-map.html
I get it. You don’t understand NY. You don’t have to repeat yourself.
People who know nothing about his platform are already saying they love how much he’s pissing off Trump. That’s the endorsement he needs to win.
That’s not even the point of this post. Why is this even such a concern to you? You’re clearly not a New Yorker, or you’d know that solidarity fighting Trump is about the best endorsement he’s gonna get. The more Trump attacks him, the better he’ll do in the general. It’s as simple as that.
Endorsement from a moderate is not as important as support against Trump. We just need to know they’re in his corner for the inevitable clashes with Trump’s ICE mandates. Hochul especially.
You for real? They can’t do anything but debate provisions, propose amendments, inform the media, and stall. They’ve been doing all four for weeks.
I want more Democratic Socialism. I want more Zohran Mamdani. I want more AOC.
Those candidates run often, but we don’t show up to the primary. If we did, they’d get more funding and support.
Take it from a political strategist analyzing Mamdani’s campaign.
For sure. Did you see Alaska’s big news today?
Where’s the poop, Lisa?
This is how he works. He starts with an “outlandish claim” that no one takes seriously, and then repeats it until the average citizen becomes desensitized. First it’s just “the worst of the worst” then it’s just “violent criminals” then just “criminals” then “illegals…”. Next thing you know, it’s so normalized that he’s selling merch in celebration.
It’s important to know his pattern, especially considering he’s been talking about deporting US citizens for two months now, and the Republicans in Congress have already granted him the authority to do so.
I applaud his campaign and what they accomplished. Don’t expect it to change on a larger scale without our participation.
Candidates like Zohran Mamdani run often, but they don’t have the means to reach you. Very few congressional districts can be canvassed on foot and mass transit like NYC.
The key is for us to seek out the progressive on the primary ballot and vote. We shouldn’t be rewarding the candidates who have the financial means to find us in our living rooms. Sign up for mailers if you forget to vote. Sign up for mail-in ballots if you have an irregular schedule.
I apologize if my wording was not to your liking, but the result is the same. Trump is ensuring a financial pipeline to Russia that would not exist had he not taken action.
They expired today. I will change the title from “lifted” to “extended” if it pleases you.
Did you see them laughing while voting down the Democrats’ amendments? Straight up sociopathic.
