While true, also under the two party system the republicans are guaranteed to win at least sometimes. If democrats refuse to actually oppose fascism when they get into office then we’re going to end up with fascism after maybe a few extra steps anyway. Fascism has to be dealt with at the root level or it will grow enough to take over eventually.

You’re not informing anyone. You’re pointing fingers and not even at the people who are actually carrying out these policies. What you’re really doing is trying to do a barely-disguised smug “I told ya so”. Those protest non-voters told democrats that they need to clean their act up or they would lose and would you look at that, they were right, so I guess they’re the champions of “I told ya so” but I don’t see them try to rub it in people’s faces like you.

The democrats should purge the party of these republicans dressed up (and not even convincingly) as democrats, but instead democrats welcome such characters with open arms and will promote them over progressives. If they want to stop people from thinking both parties are the same, they should really do something about this.
Democrats have been doing “foreplay” for years. Trump is not a new entity on the political scene, we’ve already lived through a Trump presidency, then after all the noise (or “foreplay” as you put it) that democrats made about how criminal he is, they did absolutely nothing to pursue prosecution during or after his term. They’ve had years to do something meaningful and they’ve done nothing. This lame stunt will lead to nothing. Foreplay is supposed to be interesting/exciting and generally leads to something more. There is never anything more to democrats, they just make noise and beg for donations while things only continue getting worse.
I want action to advance progressive causes and obstruction to block fascist actions. What you’re describing with “do something! Anything!” and “action for action’s sake” actually apply to publicity stunts like this free taco event.
It’s effective if it’s combined with action. If democrats are, say, voting in enough numbers to help pass his spending bill, then this already overplayed tease is meaningless. Democrats don’t even try to obstruct. The least they could do is make witty satire instead latching onto anything with a hint of virality, beating it to death, and then beating the corpse.

Kamala Harris just chooses whatever she thinks will further her career. She chose poorly. She’s just lucky the party was stupid enough to have elevated her to vice president even after her debate performance was so bad that she dropped out before the 2020 presidential race even started. Then the idiotic party elevated her again after Biden (another opportunist piece of garbage who was elevated by the party) was forced to step down after his embarrassing 2024 debate performance was obvious to even deluded party insiders.
That disqualifies democrats as well.

I agree that fascists will try to force through what they can, but there is a wide range on the political spectrum outside of fascism, and they wouldn’t force through fake news laws like fascists, but they will take advantage of legal tools provided to them. A domestic mass surveillance program, the likes of which a fascist would want, was instituted by Bush and then continued and expanded by Obama. The justification was to combat terrorism, which would seem like a worthwhile goal, but I’d argue the negatives far outweigh any supposed positives.
Additionally, having these tools laying around only makes the job of fascists easier. Fascists still have to work within the legal framework set up before them, at least initially. Sure, they can try to ignore and force through measures, but the courts have legal backing to challenge them. A blanket misinformation law would make it so much easier for fascists to label something as misinformation and the courts can’t do anything about it.
In this case, it’s specifically about outlawing Holocaust denial, so I can’t imagine it being abused, but at the same time, I can’t imagine it doing much to stop fascism. It’s such a highly specific law, it even causes some to think “why only outlaw Holocaust denial and not the denial of other atrocities?” and that’s where the opportunity for a more general law comes in, which increases the potential for abuse.
Agreed. People imagine the best case scenario for these kinds of bans, like calls to criminalize “misinformation” but what happens when the government is headed by Donald “Fake News” Trump and suddenly what you know to be fact is labelled “misinformation”? People were getting cancelled for speaking out against the invasion of Iraq, now imagine if it became a crime to deny that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.
