With the sighting of a Eurasian otter, Tangkulap Forest Reserve becomes the only place in Malaysia where all four East Asian otter species coexist. The three others are the smooth-coated (Lutrogale perspicillata) and Asian small-clawed otter (Aonyx cinereus), both listed as vulnerable, and the endangered hairy-nosed otter (Lutra sumatrana).

As apex predators in rivers and waterways, otters are indicators of ecosystem health and are very sensitive to changes in their environment.

I followed the discussion and agree schadenfreude is not uplifting and also believe its up to mods to make final decisions, just arguing why i think in this case this news is not very schadenfreude and not necessarily political anyway in an effort to convince you to not remove this post. I’m aware others feel different though.
I’d argue it’s different for an individual as oposed to a company as well. If it was ‘Country opens criminal investigation on Oil Company because of Nature Damage’ it wouldn’t be freude because of the schaden done to the oil company. But if the news was ‘CEO of Oil Company that caused Nature Damage’ I’d say that’s schadenfreude because the news is about a bad thing happening to a bad person.
Which makes X’s wrongdoing political, but the actual news isn’t about politics imo.
NAB stands for National Australia Bank for people also not aware.
I’m upvoting this one, normally i’d only find a positive and definite ruling actual news, but this singular guy fighting a goliath is inspiring enough to be good news to me. But i dont think i would upvote If it were some rich guy.
For £1, visitors to the park can use the machine to feed wild birds healthily and sustainably, rather than using bread which can lead to malnutrition.
I’m really happy about this, always thought 1 flavour of fascism wasn’t enough for me /s
Don’t forget it’s not only about having the right skin colour, having the right political views also matters.
and just need to hate somebody
It’s not always hate, sometimes there is no emotion at all and they just need a scapegoat.
Agree, i never mind when any person who did evil things stands up when another person does something else evil. The more people calling the evil deed out the better.
I once heard a theory we should not tax incoming money but outgoing money. So with income tax it is not that you pay over what you receive but your employer pays tax before you get it (like you pay vat when you buy something). I am no expert but it sounded like it would really work on big corps and rich people because the bank would have to pay taxes when they pay you interest, the broker would pay tax when they pay your profits on shares. Can’t imagine it be easy to overhaul the whole system, but it would take away the ‘responsibility’ of paying taxes from the person who owns the money and puts this responsibility on the person who’s parting from the money.
“To achieve this, it is necessary to foster international cooperation in multilateral forums to promote and facilitate the implementation of evidence-based reforms and ongoing experiences regarding the taxation of large fortunes in different countries.” [the Spanish government explained.]
Really glad they’ve decided to counter the ability of the grotesquely rich to just move to another country. If we want them to pay taxes, we need international cooperation.
To give you one example, there where a few million protesting against all that happening. Not sure if that falls under national pride, but it sure is societal pride.
Where are you seeing owls being enslaved in the article?
To be honest I only read the title, bumped into a paywall when i clicked the link and couldn’t be bothered to put more effort in it.
And even if they were being enslaved, that’s better than minefields of (artificial) poison in our (natural) environment.
I do agree on this.
Even if you’re a vegan, there’s enslaved hordes of plants behind your survival.
But not on this, although i am not gonna argue why slave animals is a thing and slave plants is not a thing.
It’s always what’s better.
You’re right, it’s finding the balance - that was the topic of my comment basically.
The title of the post ≠ the headline of the article, which make it all the more problematic.
