politics @lemmy.world•Constitutional amendment to allow Trump third term introduced in the House
2·1 year agoI don’t know how bad gerrymandering is here compared to other states, but California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed legislation that would have required dozens of his state’s largest cities, counties and educational districts to use independent commissions to draw voting districts, dealing a setback to “redistricting reform” advocates.

“We’re frustrated, confused and deeply disappointed,” Jonathan Mehta Stein, executive director of voting rights group California Common Cause, said Monday. He added: “We were hopeful that this was an opportunity for California to show the rest of the nation what it looks like to put gerrymandering behind us.”

waiting 2 years to start prosecution of trump’s crimes
Yeah, WTF was up with that‽ It almost feels intentional that he was allowed to get away with everything.
And his rhetoric around “anchor babies”. Such hypocrisy.
And look at what that choice has resulted in.

Fun fact: Elon Musk was an illegal immigrant
The reason this is relevant is because he has spent the better part of a year complaining about “illegal immigrants” who are “invading” the country. But an old video from 2013 resurfaced on Saturday that appears to show the billionaire admitting he was at one point building his small business in the country illegally, describing it as a “gray area.”
“Musk called his immigration status a ‘gray area’ while discussing the 1990s.”
**Edit: Here is a link to the video set to the timestamp where he discusses it.

politics @lemmy.world•'Put that everywhere': Steve Bannon admits 'Project 2025 is the agenda' after Trump wins
4·1 year agoI hadn’t heard of Meshtastic so I looked it up:
“An open source, off-grid, decentralized, mesh network built to run on affordable, low-power devices”
I would love yo get involved but it only supports Apple (iOS and Mac) and Android (and a web browser).
I was hoping to host a node on a raspberry pi but those run Linux.
Thanks for all the other suggestions though.

Don’t feel so special.
