Congrats! Out of the usual suspects, (nginx, traefik & caddy), id say nginx has the steepest learning curve, so it’s definitely something to crow about mate! I know professionals in the tech industry that have a hard time with nginx config, so an enthusiast getting it down is a bigger deal than you’re giving yourself credit for.

I host various services for friends and family; and here are a couple I think will be of particular interest to you:

• matrix server with element clients. (Self hosted discord/WhatsApp alternative which is open source unlike TS).
• Drop server and client setup (self hosted steam like experience).

Another thing I would strongly suggest doing, is setting up a single sign on Auth server. Something that will allow your friends and family to have one login for anything you setup. Personally I use keycloak. But there are other options like authentik and voidauth that are worth looking at too!

Are you able to link us to the figures that show gen x voted for predominantly Harris? All the ones I find seems to corroborate this trend of predominantly trump supporters.

Visa and MasterCard probably want government intervention at this point. Regardless of the approach they take now, their phone lines will be clogged up by opposing views voicing their concerns.

By giving in they have promoted this sort of behaviour as effective which means:

• the opposing side know its an effective strategy
• the appeased side know its an effective strategy for future issues.

If the US gov (or the AUS/UK whomever is housing these lunatics gov) decided to make this illegal IE: payment providers cannot prevent legal business based on their own morality or something like that, then visa & MC could hold their hands up and say “sorry dudes take it up with your elected rep” and wash their hands of the situation altogether.

Slightly off topic, but If you have the time to travel; may I suggest looking into Interrail if you’re not already aware of it. An interrail pass would be the European equivalent to an american road trip imo.

One train ticket helped me cover places like Portugal, Spain, and Italy, all the way through to Switzerland and onto Hungary, Poland etc and back home all over the course of two weeks.

I was backpacking solo, so just looked up hostels in whatever city i ended up in on the day. But you could just as easily use it to plan a family itinerary. The actual ticket lasts a lot longer than a fortnight too; I’m just a slave to the machine and couldn’t get more time off.

I spent a week trying to work out why my traefik instance wasn’t forwarding http & Https traffic to any of my docker containers. By the fifth day I remembered that the week before I’d decided it would be a good idea to test locally before uploading to my vps, by adding my site URLs to my hosts file. (All except traefik: which meant I was able to access the dashboard and see all my routers online… I just couldn’t reach any of them, with no logs for access etc… drove me insane.).

It was only until I tried accessing from my mobile that I realised what I’d done.

Should’ve known better, but that’s the price we pay for “good ideas” at 2am.
