I feel like the “I have to eat meat every day” people overlap a lot with the “I refuse to wear a mask” people. Are you thinking they’re largely different people?

I think a lot about something I read years ago. It said something like, “Some people love their country the way a child loves a parent. The parent is the smartest and the best and perfect. Some people love their country the way an adult loves a peer. They see the strengths, the potential, but also the weaknesses and problems that need to be addressed.”

Conservatives are generally children. Driven largely by emotion with a very simple moral framework. Much like you will likely struggle to explain to a toddler that taking the other kid’s toys, screaming constantly, and shitting in the sandbox won’t make a lot of friends, explaining politics to a conservative is likely to be an ordeal. They don’t care. They have feelings and that is their reality.

It’s also kind of funny how conservatives are the ones who typically say “reality doesn’t care about your feelings”. Everything is projection.

Someone who rejects the content because they don’t like the form is an idiot. Unfortunately, all of us are idiots like that.

People are too emotionally invested in meat. They’d rather die in record high temperatures than go without or even reduce.

Sometimes called the ratchet effect. Republicans push to the right, and Democrats refuse to move to the left.

Then Democrats are confused why they’re not more popular, despite being a watered down version of Republicans.

This should be obvious to anyone paying any attention, but a lot of maga hats live in a world of lies, and a lot of people live in a world of shallow media. All those “did biden drop out?” searches right before the last election are haunting.

My parents, who thankfully can’t vote in the NYC election, don’t really like Zohran. One because she’s terrified of “communism” (whatever that means to her). The other is skeptical, but I feel like could be convinced. I think that’s a lot of older people.

Conservatives typically don’t want to talk about blame because it is their fault.

Americans are just stupid, and it’s easy to whip us into a moral panic.

I’m having a thought. It’s easy to write them off as stupid, and they may be, but there’s also like… If they have really bad information, the decisions they make given that info as true make more sense. If you really believed that Harris was eating babies, or “she’s a communist that’s going to put the christians in a labor camp”, it would make sense to vote for the “lesser” evil.

Just need to figure out why they believe such falsehoods. it’s probably fox news et al.

Ted Cruz is a piece of shit and there’s nothing we could do to him to make up for his malice and ineptitude. Though I’d be willing to see some attempts.

Outside of like NYC you have a car. It’s a bad system economically, ecologically, and socially, but many people are kind of stupid and reactionary. You show them how putting in a bike lane and adding a bus stop will lower car traffic, improve air quality, and increase economic activity and they just go “no because I feel so”. Or, “one time I had to move a refrigerator so we need to prioritize large privately owned vehicles”.

I feel like we should know who these ice agents are and have constant protests outside their homes. They shouldn’t be able to sleep soundly at night

I would prefer basic, subtle, black. I don’t want rainbows and lights. I’m very function over form.

I’d also rather play a game on medium settings where it runs flawlessly and doesn’t make the fans go hard, than at high settings with worse performance.

I meant more generally, so democrats can win elections and then win votes. It’s something they should have been doing for the past decade. Look at how the democratic party is treating Zohran for an example of how not to do it.

In my imagination there are increasingly desperate actions they could do to stop the bill from proceeding. Pull the fire alarm. Start a fire. Cover all the chairs with honey. I don’t know. I feel like if it looked like a portal to hell was about to open I would break a lot of norms and rules to stop it

I’ve looked online but I guess I failed my search checks, because I didn’t find anything big in NYC.

But also like others have said, we need to do more than just march. We need to be disruptive. No more labor until every Republican resigns. That kind of thing.

I think that’s the “only Democrats have agency” thing that comes up. When Republicans are horrible shits people are just like yeah they’re horrible but like you don’t blame the bear for doing bear stuff. But everyone else is held to normal human standards
