I just made a DIY NAS, i mean I bought a cheap Intel N100 based minipc, installed xpenology and called it a day, I have backups set up, home assistant, jellyfin, immich etc
TrueNAS has some built-in kinda appstore, OMV on the other hand docker compose isn’t that straightforward, first you need to add some unofficial repo, then install docker compose, then configure it
Thanks, I’ll check it out, testing TrueNAS nightly at the moment😁
Lol, nice, I’ll look in October then, also there’s a (LTT backed, TrueNAS based) HexOS in the works, zimaOS (casas based complete OS) seems to have a proper RAID support but I wasn’t able to check it out in a virtualbox
asking the important question, but yeah, the plot is essential in porn
I don’t know why everyone stopped talking about how TT it’s spyware, security researchers were out of their mind few years ago
I moved my PC to a corner of my house without an Ethernet jack, I didn’t want to drill any holes, pull any cables, dug out an old smartphone, connected with a micro USB (!) cable, enabled USB tethering, connected the phone via WiFi and had a nice Internet connection
It makes people feel better, not in general but better than others, most religions are about “this is how I’m better then you heathen”
Where’s Sriracha mayo at? Also normal mayo, garlic sauces like aioli, toum etc, here in Poland ground horseradish is the shit
Yeah, I considered selling my gaming PC and buying something like Legion GO, but it would require some sacrifices on my part
Many people I know don’t have room to spare for a PC, small desk etc, nowadays for gaming handheld PCs are more and more obvious choice, as you could use them connected to a TV like a conventional console, and do actual work with a wireless kb/m combo, it’s not ergonomic than a laptop IMO,
Personally I’d go ITX in a small <15L case
as the rest said lossless compression won’t really work on media files as they’re already compressed, there are probably some compression layers based on fuse you could mount over your cloud storage mount point (if it supports mounting in linux) and it’d be transparent, but in case of video files i believe your only solution is to reencode those files, handbrake is a nice GUI tool
are there any AX routers supported by DD-WRT? all routers your article suggests are AC routers, quick research show no AX routers on support lists
Of course it does, anyway it’s normal Linux, so it does everything desktop Linux does, you gonna be of course limited by your device hardware capabilities like RAM or storage, so maybe you won’t be able to deploy a kubernetes stack on your home router but it’ll be doable on a more capable device running OpenWRT like an RPi, PC or NAS;-)
I bought an Asus RT-AX53U, it was the cheapest WiFi 6 router with openwrt support
When I buy books I buy physical, but sometimes digital is more practical, even with small format books I struggle to read them in public transit during my work commute, with a reader like Kindle or even with a smartphone I don’t have to work about my book being damaged in a bag it someone, even without a cover a reader will say least scratch a bit, on the other hand dropping a reader is another story, the screen can easily break, book won’t. Also the obvious thing is you can get ebooks instantly, physical ones have to be shipped or at least brought from the store like everything physical. Another thing is WAREZ, you can get ebooks illegally, I don’t condone it but it makes the access easier, sometimes it’s the only way to get a given book because it’s sold out or something. But I’m one of those people who don’t have a problem with ebooks, on an ebook reader I see them equal with paper ones
