I’m a hoarder who never uninstalls Steam games even if I don’t foresee playing them again. I bought an 8TB nvme drive last summer for $545. I questioned my life choices when I bought it, but now the same drive is $1750. I feel better about my purchase.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Do you participate in this hobby without a formal IT education or a career in a similar field?English
2·2 months agoI was enrolled in community college for computer science around '08-'09. I completed Visual Basic and C++ intro courses in before switching to mechanical engineering, which is now my field of employment. I built a Windows Media Center HTPC with a tuner card during my community college years. That HTPC evolved over time, and eventually Microsoft killed WMC. I tried Plex TV recording, but that sucked balls compared to WMC. The latest incarnation of that computer runs TrueNAS, and I’m not really doing much with it beyond self-hosting media, but I have a Mint VM installed and set up for a Valheim dedicated server in anticipation of the 1.0 release next month. I might eventually move Home Assistant off a Pi into my TrueNAS, but it hasn’t been high-priority.

1230·3 months agoWhile I appreciate the sentiment, there’s some details that hurt your case:
- A pregnant woman entering the US has a baby daddy who is likely not a US citizen. Donald Trump (Barron’s alleged father) is a US citizen, therefore his offspring is a US citizen.
- The Supreme Court has affirmed birthright citizenship. Since Barron was born in the US, he’s a US citizen, regardless of his mother’s immigration status.

5·4 months agoIf they had done this 6 months ago, I would have probably picked Unraid. I hated the idea of using a USB boot device, so I went with TrueNAS instead.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump administration quietly shifts $352m in federal funds for White House ballroom
36·4 months agoIs there some legal base existing for that?
Yes.
The Supreme Court decided the President is above the law, so it stands to reason the next President could steal everything from Trump, sodomize him with a FIFA world cup trophy, neuter him with rusty gardening shears, revoke his citizenship, and throw him in Guantanamo. As long as these are all done as official acts by the President.
Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.

I say send the ballots anyway and charge him with one count each of felony mail tampering and election fraud for every ballot that doesn’t get delivered.

15·5 months agoAssuming the ballroom gets completed before inauguration '29, I’m fine with Trump staying in it for the rest of his life, as long as all entrances and exits are sealed, and no food or water enters.

16·6 months agoHere’s the details I catch if I really look:
Backwards flag patch on chest (flag patch should only have the stars at the top right when worn on the right shoulder, if that’s even a thing), flag patch crooked on upper arm when it should be perpendicular to the arm.
And from a broader point of view, why would an ejected pilot be carrying a full-size American flag?
Anybody see anything else wrong?

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Unifi Protect - Wife Approval Factor? +HA integrationEnglish
1·8 months agoI keep seeing Reolink pop up. Would a Reolink doorbell work with a Unifi NVR?
Sort of. You can add most cameras that support ONVIF and they’ll be viewable and record just fine in Protect, but third party cameras won’t support detection unless you also add a Unifi AI Port. I also wouldn’t count on Unifi recognizing it as a doorbell for the purposes of two-way audio or for doorbell notifications. Those would likely have to be handled outside of Protect.

Which site? Truth Social, or the unaffiliated site the commenter above you linked to? trumpstruth.org is a third party site that preserves Trump’s posts where they won’t get deleted and where people can link without giving traffic/ad revenue to the asshole.
