  • I never understood the logic behind that. What’s the reason for it?

Are we afraid that all of the criminals will form a Crime Party and campaign to legalize burglary and murder? 😈

Or do we think the type of person who would commit a violent crime is going to be incentivized to not commit a crime because of losing their right to vote, in a country where half the people don’t vote anyway?

Before I mug this old lady, I really should consider that this upcoming election has huge ramifications and I really don’t want to risk losing my right to vote. I don’t mind jail, community service, or monetary fines; it’s voting that might prevent me from commiting this offense. 🤓

No, I think it’s more likely that some people don’t want other people who are disproportionately convicted of crimes (you know, those people) to have a voice.

  • It’s funny how one hobby spirals into another, innit? You can’t really be a wood carver without also learning about sharpening and honing.

I’m a spoon carver, so I hone my blade every 5-10 minutes of carving with a piece of leather hlued to a block of wood (store bought, not home made) with some honing compound (green waxy stuff) rubbed on. For honing my hook knife (for carving out bowls of spoons) I rub the blade against a wooden dowel, again with honing compound rubbed on.

When I actually need to sharpen a blade, I use a two sided sharpening stone and some water. Works on everything from hatchets to scissors.

  • Thanks, I’ve looked at all of those but they either have substandard, Microtek CPUs that are so far below adequate that the productivity hit would impact me more than the loss of physical keys (Unihertz) or have problems delivering actual phones altogether (Fxtec Pro1) or aren’t really phones but more micro-laptops (Planet Computer).

I’m just looking for a nice, mid-ranged phone with a mobile keyboard. Actually I think the closest to achieving that goal is the Fairberry mod which fuses a surplus BlackBerry Q10 keyboard on to a Fairphone with a 3D-printed case, but that requires electronic assembly and soldering.
