  • Still, it pisses me off that Not Fascism isn’t enough.

I’m going to go against the grain here a little, and bring up race. Sorry to people tired of id pol, but please hear me out in good faith.

I know this is going to sound inconceivable to a lot of people on Lemmy, but there are still parts of the American voter base that cannot conceive of having a president that is black/mixed race AND a woman. They don’t care about fascism, they don’t care about policy, they care about the skin color and gender of their chosen leader.

Remember, Donald Trump rose as a direct response to the election of Obama.

We can pretend we live in a post-race, post-sexism society, but to pretend this wasn’t a factor when hate crimes have been on the rise for multiple minority groups says otherwise. All these people coming out of the woodwork post-election results to threaten women and black people says otherwise. Wayne Gretzky and his entire family was at Trump’s victory party in Mar-A-Lago, and most of the hockey fandom gave ZERO fucks.

I actually wonder if they would have done better if Tim Walz was first on the ticket instead of Harris.

  • The consensus seems to be that people that voted democrat in 2020 voted republican this time because they experienced inflation under Biden that think it was his fault.

What consensus is saying this? Outside of Latino men and first time voters shifting to Trump, most analysis (so far) is that the Democrats lost around 10-15 million votes from 2020, compared to Trump losing only 2 million. If all the Dems/Undecideds moved to Trump, he would have not lost voters.

What was the Red vs Blue turnout in Nebraska in 2020 vs 2024, I bet that would go a long way to explain why the union leader lost.

  • It is so so strange to me that there are Americans who want Tlaib to ignore her Palestinian heritage, and be “American first” because she is a representative of the American electorate.

Ignoring the fact that she probably has Palestinian/Arab constituents, these are also usually the same people who shout about their European heritage 5 generations back or whatever (don’t even get me started about their claims of descending from Henry the Eight or whatever), and also never actually “claim” Tlaib as American in any other circumstances because she’s not visibly of European descent.

Like…make it make sense, Robert from HR, who can’t be a direct descended to Henry the Eight because it is literally impossible.

  • I’m just old enough to have heard all of this many times before. But sure, I’m the one that needs educating

Here’s the thing though, what you’re “hearing” is a false narrative, and I linked you the numbers to prove it. The voter turnout for younger generations is on par or only slightly lower than other generations, and actually higher in the key battleground states. So why are you so defensive and pessimistic instead of acknowledging what you “heard” about youth turn out might be false and actually a systemic problem, not a generational one?

I’m all for optimism and I truly hope Texas goes blue. But I bet you it won’t.

Texas literally cannot go full blue unless there are several districts that are un-gerrymandered. It’s part of the Republican capture of battleground states. Again, a systemic problem that you imply are an individual’s fault.

  • It’s partially a joke, but there is non-negligible subsection of privileged gay men who believe than any form of femininity is beneath them, to the point of misogyny. They believe that trans women, femme presenting NBs, and even femme leaning cis gay men are lesser than them. Hence the joke among the queer community that “they hate women more than they like men”.

Reading Peter Thiel’s essay, it certainly seems to reflect the mentality of those types of people I’ve interacted with IRL. Fortunately they are drowned out by the rest of the queer community.
