I respect their right to speak their mind. However, I believe there are other efforts currently where we can make a much bigger impact.

There are some huge issues on the table: fascist takeover, at least two genocides in different parts of the world we are involved with, systemic racism, LBGTQ rights, and many more.

We could get hung up on any one, and be correct in protesting that what we’re doing isn’t enough, to the only party even likely to entertain it.

But we won’t even have the option to protest if fascism successfully subverts democracy. Those protests only work if Trump doesn’t win. Project 2025 will not condone dissent.

I feel strongly about each of these issues, and agree with the protestors, but I feel that I am best served helping people register to vote/check registration status, supporting down-ballot dems, speaking against any Mom’s For Hate speakers in our PTA meetings, etc.

My main goal is to work to ensure that we have the ability to protest those important topics in a Post-Trump democracy, where the public has more bandwidth to energize. None of what we will happen if Trump cheats his way to the Oval Office again.

And FYI Trump is waaaaay less popular now. My neighborhood is a maga stronghold. Not a single Trump flag by any house this year, but plenty of Kamala (there were no Biden signs here last election).

There is a 100% chance Trump will lose the election. He may attempt another coup, but that’s not winning. That’s flipping the table and shitting on the game board.

That’s the last legit Republican National win. He only won the popular vote in 2004 due to 9/11. He lost the popular vote in 2000 and won by Supreme Court decision.

To be fair though, democrats don’t have a problem getting out to the polls, especially for national elections. No Republican has won the popular vote for 20 years; the only Republican wins in this time were based on technicalities.

I think what we’ll see in November is the same high voting numbers, but a much different demographics pivoting the central block from old centrists to younger progressives.

I noticed the pivot in dialogue. I’ve seen him called weird a few times, which is the lesser quality one would think to call out compared to racist, fascist, rapist etc.

But I think that’s the point. All his heinous words (lies), personal attacks, and coups attempts have been normalized and the people have been desensitized. I see this pivot as a reminder of: THIS IS NOT NORMAL. This is not “all politicians are the same.” Instead of pointing to newest horrible thing, it reminds us we don’t need to be okay coexisting with fascism.

I think it unboils the frog a bit.

Biden is uniquely equipped to lose this race.

Yeah, this is where we diverge. Until literally anyone else even attempts to out-stump Biden, I’ll disagree. Not other candidate actually put up a fight to unseat him. You can want someone else, that’s fine. But until that someone else actually tries, you get what you get.

Biden won’t ruffle feathers, and that’s all the fence sitters want. They’d prefer someone neutered and ineffective. That’s why he’ll win. It’s sad but true.

Weird, why didn’t Whitmer, klobuchar, newsom, warnock, pritzker or hell buttigieg work their names on to the ballot? Why didn’t any of them qualify for the debates instead of Biden?

The answer to those questions is the answer to why we have Biden instead of whoever you like better. And it’s also why they couldn’t win against Trump at this time. Literally none of the people you listed have the widespread support that is needed to satisfy the gape of the fence-sitters like Biden does. It’s unfortunate but true.

Ah, throw a dart and gamble against fascism is a weird hill to die on. And many people will die on that hill if Trump wins.

I promise you no progressive candidate (who are my personal preference for representation) could possibly win against Trump in this time. Centrists won’t save us via positive change, which is the real crime here.

This is where democracy conflicts with what you want. A enormous number of people, large enough to tip the election, care very much who is wheeled in. Many fence sitters see anything other than the status quo as a threat. Biden represents the “safe” option to them. It sucks, but that’s the reality of why he can beat Trump and anyone younger, more progressive, or consisting of more than one “different status” have no choice.

We can’t have a choice of actual good candidates until we overturn Citizens United. At that point I’d agree with you.
