  • Unless you are forced to life in that area you are making a choice. And you are not forced to life there. It comes with trade offs. The trade offs are traded in the housing market. People fled the cities in the 80s to move into suburbs. Now people want to life in the city again.

And cost of living of course includes the coffee and toast. You see that in areas that are gentrified, forcing people who dont make the 100k a year to move away. Where before the coffee was 3$ it now is 15$. And someone is paying for that, otherwise the business would not work. So again people are making that choice. And the people with 100k make the choice actually forcing the hand of people who only make 30k and are literally forced out of their neighbourhood.

Of course then there is all the more compulsion to claim, that they had no choice but to gentrify and had no choice but to drive people out of their neighbourhoods. Because if the people with 100k weren’t forced to do so, then they would need to take responsibility for their role in that market. Of course the main responsibility remains with the landlords who are happy to drive rents up and people out. But then again i doubt there to be many six figure engineers who are devout to left parties (in case of the US, the Democrats are not a left party by any outside standard.)

  • I get the concept. But realistically that would mean three things:

In a region where people make 250k a year for them to live paycheck to paycheck the cost of living would need to be somewhere around 4-5x higher than in an area where people would make 50k a year.

That would further mean that in the areas where people make 250k a year noone would exist that could afford anything less than that. So the grocery store cashier and the gas station clerk and the postman would all need to make the same money as google software engineers. That is clearly not the case.

And thirdly that means that either the people who make that much money living paycheck to paycheck are economically illiterate and dont grasp such simple concepts… Or which is far more likely, the quality of life in high cost of living areas is in fact so much better, that it is worth paying the extra.

Either way someone who can make 250k a year is choosing to life paycheck to paycheck by choosing to pay such expenses. They definetely have the means to work somewhere where the difference between cost of living and paycheck allows for saving signficant amounts of money over time. Claiming those people would be victims of the system who were forced to live paycheck to paycheck is simply not true. It is still very much their own choice.

  • The problem is that it can still work in Germany to just pile the defendant under too many files to process with his ressources. This is not the case in stuff that courts understand, like say a traffic accident. But for anything technical/IT/IP related German courts are terribly incompetent and unable to create a fair case.

Especially regarding IP related things like streaming or torrenting movies, there is a myriad of ridiculous court decisions. The default unfortunately seems to be to just assume the corporation to be in the right, because it is a corporation and surely they must own the IP and lose a lot of money from the evil hackers.

  • That does not make it a lazy comment. If someone asks what to do about being hungry the correc anwser is to eat. The fact that they cannot afford to buy food does not change anything about the fundamental truth that the only way to still hunger is to eat.

OP made it clear, that this has followed him for decades. It is highly unlikely, that someone can just offer him some silver bullet advice here, that solves his problem without doing the emotional work. And doing the emotional work in such a situation is best done with a professional person that has no personal stakes in the whole situation.

If OP will not find a therapist within a month it will not get better by waiting another year on trying random advice from the internet. The sooner he looks for a therapist the sooner help becomes available.

  • So explain the logistics to me:

the men are asked to undress by themselves? so they have their hands free and could grab any weapon inside their clothes? or are they undressed by the soldiers? The first doesnt make sense because then the argument of safety is mood. the second doesnt make sense because the soldiers would find any weapons that are in the clothes.

Then you say they are transported to a “processing location” Then why is there videos of people sitting there for hours? why is there no transport vehicle on site? Why wouldnt people be checked for weapons and then secured inside a transport vehicle?

But even leaving all of this aside. The men have their hands tied behind their backs. How would they be able to attack a soldier with a weapon that somehow was not found in the checks before? Firearms are simply impossible to hide. So the only thing that somehow could have slipped passed would be tiny shivs. How would someone that somehow managed to reach for a small shiv in his pocket be a danger to a soldier with his hands tied behind the back? Did you ever try walking backwards on a straight line? Now imagine doing so with your hands tied and trying to hit the right angle so you can inflict a wound upon someone who wears body armor.

Further considerations: Why would someone with the goal to fight the IDF wait to get detained to then try such a ridiculous maneuver, where the margin of success is nonexistent and death is certain? It would make much more sense to shoot at them from a window when they walk down the street.

And finally: If there is a true military need to act like this, why did we not see these kind of pictures on a regular basis from the Ukrainian military?

I fail to see a military justification for this. Especially since other militaries are perfectly capeable to handle suspects and POWs without stripping them down like this.

  • I generally agree, but for hard physical labor you will simply find more men doing them even in a perfectly equal society. Simply because the body shape of biological men tends to be more suitable. Of course there will also be “manly” biological men that dont identify as men, or “feminine” biological men that do identify as such, etc. It is important that these are not absolutes, but trends. So they allow for general statements but never to judge for an individual.
