  • although i dont like to post alot, i struggled when i posted a couple of memes and the phone wouldn’t stay silent for the next 5 hours, causing me to mute the app notifications instead. I posted a request of this feature for my app dev, and hopefully that would be took into consideration. Lemmy devs seem to be busy with under the hood features and fixes but i dont know better. third party app devs should alleviate the load from Lemmy devs by working out those features instead, until it gets adopted on Lemmy web.The fediverse seem to work on love and coffee…and some donations probably

  • “The Very REAL Victims of Wage Theft” is a YouTube video that sheds light on the issue of wage theft and its impact on workers. The video exposes the widespread occurrence of wage theft, which includes unpaid overtime, rest breaks, and off-the-clock violations, and estimates that it costs ordinary Americans $50 billion annually. Despite being illegal, wage theft is not treated as a traditional crime and often goes unreported. The video highlights the power imbalance between employers and employees and how multinational corporations lobby against legislation that would hold them accountable for wage theft committed by franchise owners. It also emphasizes the devastating impact of wage theft on workers, particularly in the context of Kroger employees who face food insecurity when their paychecks are not issued on time. The video concludes that wage theft is a real crime with real victims and calls for stronger protections for workers.

00:00:00 In this section, the focus is on a pizza delivery driver who falls victim to wage theft. He works long hours but earns less per delivery, and is expected to perform unpaid tasks when not delivering. Wage theft, which includes unpaid overtime, rest breaks, and off-the-clock violations, is estimated to cost ordinary Americans $50 billion annually, surpassing other forms of theft. However, most cases of wage theft go unreported, especially by those with less political power. Even when reported, victims often do not see justice, with only about half of the cases ruled in their favor and a third of successful cases not recovering any money. Variations in wage theft laws across states further complicate the issue. Despite being illegal, wage theft is not treated as a traditional crime. 00:05:00 In this section, the video highlights the imbalance of power between employers and employees when it comes to wage theft. While employees can face severe consequences for stealing from their employers, employers who commit wage theft often face no legal repercussions. The video discusses how multinational corporations, including fast food chains like Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, lobby against legislation that would hold them accountable for wage theft committed by franchise owners. The video also exposes the extent of wage theft in California, where a study found that 85% of fast food workers surveyed experienced at least one form of wage theft. The impact of wage theft on real people is emphasized, with examples including Kroger employees not receiving their paychecks due to payroll software glitches. These examples demonstrate the widespread occurrence of wage theft and the need for stronger protections for workers. 00:10:00 In this section, the video highlights the devastating impact of wage theft on workers, particularly in the context of Kroger employees. Many workers who already face food insecurity are left struggling when their paychecks are not issued on time. The video points out the hypocrisy in how wage theft is treated differently than other crimes, such as shoplifting. The justice system tends to be lenient towards crimes committed by the powerful, while disproportionately penalizing those with less power. The conclusion is that wage theft is a real crime with real victims, and it is important to address this issue rather than solely focusing on crimes that affect large corporations’ profits.
