    what’s interesting is that one comes across all variety of stories of European higher education faculty membets resisting Nazis, Fascists, and that ilk back in the early 20th century

    I wonder if times have changed, if American intellectuals are uniquely cowardly, or if it’s all so anecdotal that no serious conclusions could possibly be made

      Officially opposing hitler was a death sentence at some point. Also there was a point where his SS and the police were fighting. There were no databases, no flock. Police didnt want this initially.

      Also there was no H1B. Hiring foreigners over locals was unthinkable. So for many today, getting rid of H1B is reasonable.
