I wasn’t disputing your wee history lesson. In modern parlance ‘Scots’ is often substituted for ‘Scottish’.

In what context? You pulled me up for saying ‘Gaelic is a Scots language’ when calling it ‘Scots Gaelic’ is valid and distinguishes it from Irish.
And FYI its as Canadian as it is Scots so leave them be.
