Indiana House Republicans released a proposed map with new congressional district lines Dec. 1 that could lead to the elimination of the two Democrats from the state’s congressional delegation if passed.

As a Hoosier, I can see clearly that they are dividing up the blue areas and lumping them in with much larger swathes of deep red areas. This includes the three northwestern counties by the lake, as well as the college towns in Tippecanoe and Monroe counties. Indianapolis is in Marion county in the middle, and you can see that’s been sliced and diced also.
Yeah, this is a bonkers map. The idea of districting someone on North Meridian in Rocky Ripple with the Cincinnati suburbs, but a friend of theirs who lives less than a mile further east in a district that also includes a Danville, Illinois suburb?
Honestly, I’m too flabbergasted to be angry. This is just bizarre.
Maybe this could be idiotic and indefensible enough to get people to recognize how stupid gerrymandering is.
They are losing deep red counties, ones that have been republican since the civil war. This might not work for them.
Indiana was a blue state in 2008. It could happen.
Why do we allow politicians to choose their voters? It should be the other way around.
