We’re burning down the world in record low numbers!

I mean, sure, better than the opposite, but seriously? I’d like to see the post where we are restoring the Amazon in record numbers, this post is just aboringdystopia type post

You have to start somewhere man. Yeah we need a lot more to be done all around the world. But stopping deforestation is a good thing. We’re here for good news and we just got some!

        I agree with you

The problem is that I’ve been alive probably much longer than you, and I’ve seen news like this a hundred times already.

Next year the Amazon will again be burned down at record speed because of some new president that was elected who thinks that trees are useless wastes of space or something like that.

I would call it good news when the entire Amazon, all of it, is declared a nature preserve that humanity has to protect at all cost.

That will never happen. The best we can hope for is that it disappears a little slower.

And “we have to start somewhere”? Do you know how many “starts” I’ve seen over the decades? Where we need to start is getting rid of the rich, the billionaires, the centillionaires, the Wall Street types that add nothing to this world, just takes from it, the dictators, the fascists, all of it. Those are the actual problem. Climate change is just a symptom of the illness that is them

Let’s celebrate the wins when we get them, but continue pressuring governments to punish those that destroy the rainforest, and you can help with that wherever you live, Farmers burn down the rainforest for cattle farming, don’t buy meats from the countries that allow it to persist, that don’t punish the wealthy that finance it instead of the poor that are usually caught in raids.

        Yeah, but no.

That is the problem, WE (as in you and I) cannot do anything and WE shouldn’t have to be responsible for this shit

It’s the same as recycling. I separate all by garbage down to toothpicks, but Taylor Swift flies her private jet for whatever dumb shit and undies all the work millions of people do with a single fucking flight.

Big chain stores on a daily basis throw away millions of kilos in perfectly fine food, clothes and other products (without separation for recycling, of course) to keep prices up, and somehow I need to fix this problem?

We, as in you and me and millions more can work for decades to build up something amazing and it gets torn down in a day by some billionaire or dictator, the end.

I’m really really not trying to be a dick, I’m just trying to show a reality check here. I’ve heard “save the Amazon!!” literally all my life, decades, and NOTHING was done to stop it. Oh sure, er had little wins here and there, like this one, which got washed away a year later by some new asshole on the block

I’m not saying “why even bother anymore”, though the feeling is… Familiar, at this point, but I am saying that we need to start doing something else because we’re focused on the wrong problem

The Amazon is not a problem, it’s a symptom of the real problem. The real problem is that out of 8 billion people on this world there is a tiny sliver, a few tens of thousands of psychopaths at most, that have gathered all the power and money. Be it billionaires, dictators, doesn’t matter, same shit, different day.

THAT is the problem, that is the issue that needs fixing. These people need to be stopped, one way or another, and never to return.

Ordinary people don’t want wars. Why do we have wars? That tiny group of people. The current Iran war is the result of a small group of US government officials and a part of the Israeli government.

The Amazon problem? Look down history, all the shit that happened there has to do with money and power.

None of it will ever really stop for as long as we continue looking at the symptoms. We need to stop the cause.

        How?

        I’m open to suggestions!

Personally, I’d LOVE to see world wide wealth caps. Start with, say 100 million, then a decade later you can lower that to 10. Have normal tax brackets, but nobody can be worth more than that cap, the last bracket. Any income or existing Wealth after that goes 100% to taxes. Governments will finally have the income to do things like universal healthcare, free education, even some form of universal basic income

That’s never going to happen of course because that requires the rich and powerful to finally be the same as the rest of us, and they’ll never allow that.

But with that, we’d finally be able to focus on fixing the world without a few powerful psychopaths fucking everything up for everyone just so they can get a little richer

The other day I was very slowly and carefully kicked in the nuts. They cautiously took all my money…ahh Taxes! Yup.
