All Republicans + 1 Dem voted against the “No Whites Only” Bill. This story has been making some rounds on social media, and people are kind of missing the point based on the headline. The bill amended our housing discrimination protections to include bans on discrimination on the basis of “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “gender expression.” That’s what the bill is about, not the stupid all-whites community in Arkansas. Also, we have an R majority in the PA Senate, so this won’t pass.

Wait…am I reading this wrong? The bill bans whites only housing. The bill that bans it, passed by 1 vote. That means “whites only” is banned.

    Right?

It passed the house, but it’s very likely going to die in the Senate which has a Republican majority

House Bill 2103 would close a loophole in the state that could let white nationalist groups establish communities under the guise of a private club or member-only organization by blocking such groups from restricting membership by race, color, and national origin to deny equal access to housing, employment, and public accommodations. The bill also expands anti-discrimination protections for employment, housing, and public accommodations to a person’s sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression.

Race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression; how anyone could justify housing discrimination on the basis of who other people are is asinine, and no legislator should be standing in the way of it.

It passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives because the Democrats are in the majority, but the Republicans have a 27-23 state senate majority, so it won’t go to the Democratic governor’s desk for signing unless Republicans vote in favor of it.
