I never had this kind of a rolling shutter with the a7c. (1/4000s)

Probably because this is a photography community, not birding, and many people know what a puffin is anyway.

Were you shooting in 14bit? I see the read out speed is much worse for the a7c for the higher bit depth. Even at 12 bit its a bit slow for reliable electronic shutter, I don’t use mine on fuji because of this risk
Are you shooting with an electronic or electronic first curtain shutter?
I thought it could have had something to do with that because I did change to silent shutter mode at some point and then changed back. I don’t remember if this was one of the silent mode photos.
I’m pretty positive that this is electronic shutter. You can get this effect no matter what your shutter speed is because it is dictated by the sensor read out speed.
Some sort of HDR stacking?
Some newer drones have anti-identification features like this that look normal to the human eye but confuse computer vision models that were trained on old versions.
